Virginia's 35th House of Delegates district elects one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. District 35, in the Shenandoah Valley, [1] is currently represented by Republican Chris Runion since 2024.

Elections

Mark Keam narrowly defeated James Hyland in 2007. [2] He defeated mechanical engineer Leiann Leppin Luse in 2013. [3] In that election, Luse had run on a platform of cutting taxes and regulations. [4]

Under a redistricting plan effective for the 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election, the district number was reassigned from northern Virginia's Fairfax County to a new southwestern Virginia district formed from parts of the previous districts 12, 7 and 8, including the independent city of Radford, Giles County, and parts of Montgomery and Pulaski counties. The old 12th District included Radford, Giles and different parts of Pulaski and Montgomery counties. Significantly, the new 42nd district no longer includes the Montgomery County town of Blacksburg, which had been home to previous Democrat delegates from the 12th, Joan Munford, Jim Shuler and Chris Hurst.

The 2023 Virginia Senate election was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates, to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census.

Holly Seibold is a Virginia politician and educator. She is a Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates, following a January 2023 special election to fill Virginia's 35th House of Delegates district, which became vacant following the resignation of Democrat Mark Keam.

The 2023 Virginia elections took place on November 7, 2023. All 40 seats of the Virginia Senate and 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were up for election, as are many local offices.
