The Virginia General Assembly is the legislative body of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the oldest continuous law-making body in the Western Hemisphere, the first elected legislative assembly in the New World, and was established on July 30, 1619. The General Assembly is a bicameral body consisting of a lower house, the Virginia House of Delegates, with 100 members, and an upper house, the Senate of Virginia, with 40 members. Senators serve terms of four years, and Delegates serve two-year terms. Combined, the General Assembly consists of 140 elected representatives from an equal number of constituent districts across the commonwealth. The House of Delegates is presided over by the Speaker of the House, while the Senate is presided over by the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. The House and Senate each elect a clerk and sergeant-at-arms. The Senate of Virginia's clerk is known as the "Clerk of the Senate".
The West Virginia House of Delegates is the lower house of the West Virginia Legislature. Only three states—Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia—refer to their lower house as the House of Delegates and Wisconsin's is the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Christopher Todd Gilbert is an American politician and attorney currently serving as Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates. He has been a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 2006, representing the 15th district in the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains, made up of Page and Shenandoah Counties, plus parts of Rockingham and Warren Counties.
Robert Dickson Orrock, Sr. is an American politician. Since 1990, he has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 54th district in the east-central part of the state, including parts of Caroline and Spotsylvania counties; the former county is included in the Greater Richmond Region and the latter county is included in the Washington metropolitan area. From 1990–1991, the District encompassed all of Spotsylvania County, part of Caroline County, and part of the Fredericksburg City. From 1992–2001, the District encompassed part of Spotsylvania County and all of Fredericksburg City. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Rev. Delores L. McQuinn is an American politician of the Democratic Party. On January 6, 2009 she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 70th district, made up of parts of Chesterfield and Henrico Counties and the city of Richmond. She was previously a member of the Richmond City Council.

District 100 is located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and includes parts of Norfolk City, Accomack County and Northampton County, Virginia. Amanda E. Batten is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. In 2019 she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. She serves as the House Majority Caucus Chair and represents the 96th district, comprising parts of James City County and York County. Because of changes to district lines from redistricting, Batten's district has changed to become the new 71st District, which includes the entire City of Williamsburg and portions of James City County and New Kent County.
Evan Hansen is an American politician, currently serving as a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates since 2018, representing the 51st district, which includes Morgantown and the majority of Monongalia County.
The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia Senate, to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates are elected to two-year terms single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023.
