Vivian Obianujunwa Ikechukwu (born 10 July 1997) is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Liga MX Femenil club Cruz Azul and the Nigeria women's national team. [1] [2] [3]

Ikechukwu is 1.68 m tall and plays in the forward position. [4]

She began her professional career with Abia Angels F.C. in the NWFL Premiership. [5] [6]

Rivers Angels F.C.

In 2018, Ikechukwu transferred to the Port Harcourt club Rivers Angels F.C. playing in the top-level league NWFL Premiership. [5] [7] She won the 2018 Women’s Aiteo Cup held in Yenagoa. [5] Her team became league champion in 2019, [5] and 2020–21 seasons. [8] [9] She played at the 2021 CAF Women's Champions League in Cairo, Egypt, and scored two goals. [8] [10] In February 2022, she was named Player of the Month of the NWPL. [11]

FC Gintra Universitetas

In March 2022, Ikechukwu went to Lithuania, and joined the A Lyga club FC Gintra Universitetas. [7] [4] She played at the 2022–23 UEFA Women's Champions League. [12] She scored 14 goals in 19 matches played. Her one-year contract expired in December 2022. [5]

Beşiktaş J.K.

End January 2023, Ikechukwu moved to Turkey, and signed a half-season deal with the Istanbul-based club Beşiktaş J.K. to play in the Turkish Women's Football Super League. [2] [13] [5] In the 2022–23 Super League's second half, she capped in four matches. [2] In May 2023, she suffered calf muscle strain. [1] Her contract with Beşiktaş J.K. was extended for one year in the 2023–24 Super League. [2] [14] She suffered a leg injury in December 2023. [1] She played in 30 official matches for Beşiktaş, where she played for 1.5 seasons. She contributed 9 goals and 5 assists and stayed on the field for over 2.000 minutes. [15]

International career

Ikechukwu is a member of the Nigeria national team. [7] [14] She scored two goals against South Africa in the Aisha Buhari International Invitational Tournament in 2021. She was part of the fourth-placed nationatl team at the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nation in Morocco. [16]

On 24 March, COD United Amazons F.C. and Capital City Doves were confirmed to be excluded from the league after failing to meet the registration deadline. This reduced the number of teams to fifteen.

The 2018 Nigeria Women Premier League began on April 7 in a game featuring defending champions Nasarawa Amazons from Nasarawa State and FC Robo of Lagos State. The date was decided following a congress held in Ikeja on March 3. Prior to the game, a maiden super cup named the NWFL Champions Shield match was played between Aiteo Cup winners, Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons to officially open the new season. At the end of the 2017 season, Sure Babes of Ilorin, Jokodolu Babes of Ogbomosho and Taraba Queens of Taraba State were promoted to compete in the elite division pending registration procedures, while Saadatu Amazons of Minna and Heartland Queens of Owerri were relegated to the pro league. In May 2018, the league went on a mid-season break due to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, this was further elongated after an emerging NFF leadership crisis. In August 2018, it was announced that the remaining games of the league will commence September 12.
