The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) was formed in 1910, and is the first and oldest national amateur radio society in the world. It represents the amateur radio operators of Australia as the AR "peak body" in dealings with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the authority under the government of Australia that administers communications within and external to Australia. The WIA publishes a bi-monthly journal for its membership called Amateur Radio. The organisation is the national society representing Australia in the International Amateur Radio Union.

Gundaroo Airport is a private airstrip located approximately 2 km (1.2 mi) south of the village of Gundaroo in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia. The airport is on the grounds of "Bowylie Homestead", once the home of American actress Maud Jeffries and now the country estate of high-profile Australian aviator and entrepreneur Dick Smith. The airfield is home to the Bowylie Flying Club, a museum collection of aviation memorabilia and amateur radio equipment. The airside facilities are linked to the private homestead by a miniature railway which intersects the taxiway, requiring aircraft to give way to trains. The airfield may be available to the public by prior arrangement and has been a destination for aero clubs. The airfield has hosted a bi-annual rally for large scale model aircraft. This event attracts participants from clubs across Australia.
The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA), formerly known as PCIA, is an American trade association for wireless providers and companies that build cell phone towers, rooftop wireless sites, and other facilities that transmit wireless communication signals. The Washington Post described the industry as "the people who build all those cell towers so you can actually make those calls, download that data." These technologies are collectively referred to as "wireless telecommunications infrastructure."
