William J. Gunn - Born 29 August 1907, Died 6 June 1994 (Named Walter in a number of Publications, this is Incorrect) was a track and field athlete from Scotland who competed at the 1934 British Empire Games (now Commonwealth Games).
Gunn competed in his first Scottish National Championships in March 1926. [1]
Gunn was a member of the Plebeian Harriers in Glasgow [2] and at the 1934 Scottish AAA Championships he won the 2 miles steeplechase title. [3] [4]
He represented the Scottish Empire Games team [5] at the 1934 British Empire Games in London, England, [6] participating in one event, [7] the 2 miles steepelchase.
The athlete that you describe under that heading was my father and his name was William John Gunn and not Walter Gunn as is written therein.
I have searched a books by a John W Keddie and by Colin A Shields and also newspaper cuttings from that period and some of the Plebian Harriers fixture books and nowhere is there any mention of a Walter Gunn and indeed the family have never heard of him using that name.
I would therefore be grateful if you would make a correction to the aforementioned article and replace the name Walter Gunn with the correct name William.J.Gunn.
