Waris Islam is a British-Bangladeshi writer and director working in television, film and radio. [1] He started his career writing for the BBC Radio drama series Silver Street and directing award-winning short films such as "Short" (a winner at the Leicester Short Film Festival: CAN 2005) and "The Family Portrait" (Nominated for Best British Short Film, Raindance Film Festival 2005). [2] [3] In 2010 he was co-creator and a writer and director of Bishaash , a Bangladeshi supernatural television series produced by the BBC World Service for BTV. [4] Since completing the BBC Continuing Drama Directors' Training Scheme he has become a regular director of Eastenders , [5] and has directed episodes of Hollyoaks , Holby City , Vera , [6] and The Bay . [7] Other film and TV credits include The Line (2012), SoulFind (2013), and Channel 4's series Coming Up . [8]
He has been featured on the BBC New Talent Hotlist [9] and is a BAFTA, Director's UK [10] and RTS member.[ citation needed ]
Waris Hussein is a British-Indian television and film director. At the beginning of his career he was employed by the BBC as its youngest drama director. He directed early episodes of Doctor Who, including the first serial, An Unearthly Child (1963), and later directed the multiple-award-winning Thames Television serial Edward & Mrs. Simpson (1978).
