A water balloon launcher or water balloon slingshot is a catapult toy that shoots water balloons significantly further than hand-throwing [1] and is used in some water balloon fights. Both home-made and commercially sold models exist, with stationary, mobile, and multi-person-operated types available. [2] Even though water balloon launchers are mainly marketed towards children, adults also engage in water balloon activities. [3] Some water balloon launchers are capable of launching water balloons further than 300 yards (274 metres). [4]
It is unsafe to misuse a water balloon launcher by loading it with snowballs. [5] Water balloon launchers pose a risk of eye injuries, [6] such as when a young man suffered orbital blowout fracture resulting from the misuse of a water balloon launcher, and became legally blind from his left eye. [7] In another case, a 31-year-old female suffered from traumatic retinal dialysis in her right eye, resulting in permanent loss of vision. [8]
A slingshot or catapult is a small hand-powered projectile weapon. The classic form consists of a Y-shaped frame, with two tubes or strips made from either a natural rubber or synthetic elastic material. These are attached to the upper two ends. The other ends of the strips lead back to a pouch that holds the projectile. One hand holds the frame, while the other hand grasps the pocket and draws it back to the desired extent to provide power for the projectile—up to a full span of the arms with sufficiently long bands.
Bungee jumping, also spelled bungy jumping, is an activity that involves a person jumping from a great height while connected to a large elastic cord. The launching pad is usually erected on a tall structure such as a building or crane, a bridge across a deep ravine, or on a natural geographic feature such as a cliff. It is also possible to jump from a type of aircraft that has the ability to hover above the ground, such as a hot-air-balloon or helicopter. The thrill comes from the free-falling and the rebound. When the person jumps, the cord stretches and the jumper flies upwards again as the cord recoils, and continues to oscillate up and down until all the kinetic energy is dissipated.
