Waupoos Island is a community in Ontario, located within the municipality of Prince Edward County in the northwest quadrant of Prince Edward Bay. [1] A private ferry service across Smith Bay from the hamlet of Waupoos on the mainland is operated by a holiday camp on Waupoos Island. The island is a favored anchorage for experienced sailors familiar with the rocky shoals in the area. [2]

Waupoos Island was historically known as Waupoose Island as recently as 1920. [3] Much of the limestone cladding on the former residence of Joseph William's youngest son Kew, the only original structure remaining at Kew Gardens in Toronto was obtained from the lake bottom at "Waupoose Island". [4]

Prince Edward County Wine is produced in Prince Edward County (PEC) located in south eastern part of southern Ontario, the most southerly part of Canada. Prince Edward County was designated as the fourth and newest Designated Viticultural Area (DVA) in Ontario in 2007. A DVA is a wine-producing region for which rules and regulations are set down by the Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA) of Ontario. VQA Ontario is an organization officially delegated by the government of Ontario to administer and enforce the Vintners Quality Alliance Act, 1999 There are currently some 42 commercial wineries and over 50 wine grape growers in Prince Edward County, cultivating more than 700 acres of vineyard, producing 757 tons of grapes and 6130 hectolitres of wine annually.

The Queen's Bush was an area of what is now Southwestern, Ontario, between Waterloo County, Ontario and Lake Huron that was set aside as clergy reserves by the colonial government. It is known as the location of communities established by Black settlers, many formerly enslaved in the United States, in what would become Canada. Established in 1820 and known as the Queen's Bush Settlement, the community grew to more than 2,000. In the early 1840s, the land on which they lived was surveyed for future sale. Following the survey, many of the Black residents were unable to pay for the land and migrated out of Queen's Bush.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Wellers Bay</span>

Wellers Bay is a small bay on Lake Ontario, on the west side of Prince Edward County. In 1861 the Government of the Province of Canada considered making it a "harbour of refuge", and installing a lighthouse.
