Wayne Diamond is an American fashion designer, best known for his performance as an exaggerated version of himself in the 2019 Safdie brothers film Uncut Gems .

Biography

Wayne Diamond was born on Long Island, New York, and grew up in Oceanside with three sisters and one brother. His father, Alan, taught accounting at Nassau Community College and Adelphi University. His mother, Marilyn, was a schoolteacher. [1] Diamond attended Oceanside High School in his youth. [2]

He later founded the dress-maker Diamond's Run during the 1970s, based in the New York City Garment District. [3] He designed for the business through the 1980s, [4] until its sale in the 1990s [3] for $110 million. [2] During this time he spent much of his career working in The Hamptons. [5] Diamond says that he designed every dress Vanna White wore on Wheel of Fortune . [1]

Diamond has been married twice, and he has been married to his second wife for almost four decades. He has four children, including a daughter named Jamie, a teacher at UPenn. [6] [7] Diamond is Jewish. [8]

He is best known for his performance in the Safdie brothers' 2019 film Uncut Gems as a fictionalized version of himself. He has also worked in two horror videos, txt msg and scAIRcrows. [3] [9]

"The Chanukah Song" is a novelty song written by comedian Adam Sandler with Saturday Night Live writers Lewis Morton and Ian Maxtone-Graham and originally performed by Sandler on Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update on December 3, 1994. Sandler subsequently performed the song as part of his stand-up act, later updating it with new lyrics. All variations center on the theme of Hanukkah and of religious Jewish children feeling alienated during the Christmas season, and Sandler's listing of Jewish celebrities as a way of sympathizing with their situation.

The film tells the story of Howard Ratner (Sandler), a Jewish-American jeweler and gambling addict in New York City's Diamond District, who must retrieve an expensive gem he purchased in order to pay off his debts. Filming took place from September to November 2018. The original score was composed by Daniel Lopatin. Uncut Gems is the last film directed by the Safdie brothers before dissolving their partnership in 2024.
