Mir Wazir Baig is a Pakistani politician from Gilgit-Baltistan who served as the first speaker of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly. He also served as the governor of Gilgit Baltistan in 2010.
Mir Wazir Baig was born in 1942 in Hunza,Pakistan.
He started his political career as the president of the Hunza Students Movement aimed at putting an end to the rule of Mirs. He demanded that people should be allowed to meet President Chaudry Fazal Illahi during his visit to Hunza. Upon this Wazir Baig was brutally tortured and was kept in prison till president completed the visit. Wazir Baig along with his supporters kept raising voice against the cruelties of the Mir rule which came to an end in 1974 when Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto dissolved the state. Wazir Baig started his career by joining Pakistan Peoples Party. He won his seat GBLA-6 and was elected as the 1st speaker of Gilgit Baltistan Assembly. [1] [2] Later on in September 2010,Wazir was appointed the Governor of Gilgit Baltistan. He was elected three times beginning a new era of freedom and prosperity in Hunza.
Hunza,also known as Kanjut was a princely state in the Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. Initially,it functioned as a principality and subsequently became a princely state under a subsidiary alliance with the British India starting in 1892 and continuing until August 1947. For a brief period of three months,it remained unaligned after gaining independence,and then from November 1947 until 1974,it retained its status as a princely state within Pakistan. The territory of Hunza now constitutes the northernmost part of Gilgit-Baltistan,Pakistan.
Gojal,also called Upper Hunza,is situated in northwestern Pakistan. It borders China at the Khunjerab Pass,and Afghanistan at the Chapursan valley. In 2019,Gojal Valley became the second Karachukar sub-ivision within the Hunza District. It is geographically the largest subdivision of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Shimshal,previously known as Shingshal, is a village located in the Gojal tehsil of the Hunza District in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan. It lies at an altitude of 3,113 metres (10,213 ft) above sea level and is the highest settlement in the district. It is the largest valley in Gilgit-Baltistan. It encompasses nearly the entire district of Hunza. Situated within the valley is the Shimshal River,a tributary that feeds into the Hunza River. Shimshal itself is a border village,serving as a linkage point between Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region and China.

Balawaristan,is a term used for the historical region forming present-day Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. But it has its roots in the historical names Broshal,Dardiatan and Bolor or Boloristan,with documented usage in Chinese sources from the 8th century AD. According to the present day activists,'Balawaristan' includes Chitral,Gilgit,Skardu,Hunza,Nagar,Ishkoman,Punial and Yasin. The leader of BNF Nawaz Khan Naji declared that Balawaristan (Gilgit-Baltistan) is not part of Kashmir region and wants integration with Pakistan as a fifth province.

Baba Jan is a left-wing political activist in the Gilgit-Baltistan territory administered by Pakistan. He was sentenced to 71 years in jail by the Gilgit-Baltistani courts on charges of terrorism and of inciting public against the state during the Aliabad incident. Jan was released from jail on November 27,2020,after the Gilgit-Baltistani government agreed to release all the 14 people due to a week-long Aliabad sit by the families of the incarcerated. Sadia Danish is a Pakistani politician.
