"Weight" is the debut single released by American drag queen Latrice Royale. The single was released on January 15, 2014. The song plays with the homophones "weight" and "wait", revolving around the topics of food, hunger, and cravings. [1] The track features a verse by rapper Epiphany Mattel.

Background

Building off of his RuPaul's Drag Race season 4 success, Royale released a song with Manila Luzon called "The Chop" in 2012. [1] While Luzon had gone on to release other tracks, Royale had not collaborated on any of the projects. On July 10, 2013, Drag Official released an interview with Royale where he stated he was working on a single that people would have to "W-E-I-G-H-T for..." [2]

On January 15, 2014 Royale released the single, followed by an accompanying music video released in June. For the music video, Royale partnered with Michaelangelo Cosculluela, who acted as producer and editor on the project. [3]

Reception

Instinct Magazine described the song as a "high energy dance track [that] may not be everyone's flavor, but it's a fun departure from other contrived RPDR [RuPaul's Drag Race] alumnus music." [4]

The song was positively reviewed by The Huffington Post , [1] Logo TV , [5] The Magic Critique, [6] and The Embittered Queen, [7] among others. RuPaul's Drag Race alum Pandora Boxx also positively reviewed the song, stating, "It’s funny, catchy and it’s got a good beat. It also manages to capture what we all loved about Latrice and that’s not always easy to do in a song." [8]

Remixes of "Weight" have been mixed by artists Jared Jones, Lomlplex, Naked Highway, Joe Cole and David Patrilla. Rapper Jipsta appears on the remix by Jared Jones. Royale released a "Weight" remixed album with a collection of those remixes in June 2014. [9]

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars is an American reality competition spin off edition of the original RuPaul's Drag Race, which is produced by World of Wonder, for Logo TV and later VH1. The show premiered on October 22, 2012 on Logo TV, before relocating to VH1. However, it was announced on February 20, 2020 on the show's official Twitter account that the fifth season would premiere on June 5, 2020 on Showtime. Following the cast announcement on May 8, 2020, producers announced that the show would remain airing on VH1 instead of Showtime due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused "various scheduling and programming adjustments". John Patrick Masterson, known professionally as Jipsta, is an American rapper, songwriter, and music producer. Jipsta has released four full-length studio albums: Bandoozle (2011), Turnt Up (2013), Ban2oozle (2017), "Swaggerific" (2019). and most recently, his first EP "Year of the Tiger" (2021). Jipsta's unique style of layering intricate lyrics over uptempo house music beats has resulted in seven consecutive appearances on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart since 2007 when his debut single "Don't Act Like You Don't Know" was released. RuPaul's Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular was a holiday television special, which aired on VH1 on December 7, 2018. The hour-long RuPaul's Drag Race special, announced on November 1, had former Drag Race contestants Eureka O'Hara, Jasmine Masters, Kim Chi, Latrice Royale, Mayhem Miller, Shangela, Sonique, and Trixie Mattel compete to become "Drag Race Christmas Queen".

Digital Drag Fest is an ongoing digital concert series hosted by Producer Entertainment Group. Beginning on March 27, 2020, it was originally supposed to be a limited engagement until April 12 but, due to overwhelming demand, the series was extended to May 30. The aim of the series is to allow drag and LGBT performers who have had shows cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic a chance to perform for their fans. 50 percent of the proceeds from the event's merchandise would be donated to GLAAD, and several performers from the event also pledged a portion of their ticket sales to the organization.

Now That's What I Call Drag Music, Vol. 1, also known as Songs in the Key of Nope, is a comedy album by American drag performer Willam Belli, self-released on October 26, 2018. The album features fellow RuPaul's Drag Race contestants Latrice Royale and Trixie Mattel, as well as drag performer Rhea Litré. In the United States, the album spent two weeks on Billboard's Comedy Albums chart, reaching a peak position of number four.

The Bitch Who Stole Christmas is a 2021 Christmas comedy film featuring RuPaul and twenty RuPaul's Drag Race contestants, among other celebrities. The film, which aired on VH1 on December 2, 2021, is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and World of Wonder. It was directed by Don Scardino and written Connor Wright and Christina Friel.
