The Western Australia Police Medal was established to recognise Western Australia Police personnel who have completed sustained diligent and ethical service to the Western Australia Police.

Criteria

The medal is awarded to Western Australia Police both sworn and unsworn personnel who have completed 10 years sustained diligent and ethical service to the Western Australia Police. [1] The award consists of a medal, miniature, and ribbon bar. Clasps are issued with the medal in five year increments. [2]

The medal was instituted on 12 February 2001 following approval at the National Commissioner's Conference Forum to support and encourage jurisdictional recognition of diligent and ethical service. [3]

Description

The Western Australia Police Medal is a circular cupro-nickel medal, 38 mm in diameter, surmounted with St Edward's Crown. The obverse displays the Western Australia Coat of Arms, surrounded by the words 'WESTERN AUSTRALIA POLICE - DILIGENT AND ETHICAL SERVICE'.

The medal is suspended by a ribbon coloured in vertical blue and white stripes in an inverse colour pattern to the Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal that had previously been issued to Australian Police. This ribbon is shared with the South Australia Police Medal, Tasmania Police Medal, and Victoria Police Medal.

The blank reverse is engraved at its centre with the recipient's initials, surname and police regimental number.

Queens Police Medal Award

The Queen's Police Medal (QPM) is awarded to police in the United Kingdom for gallantry or distinguished service. It was also formerly awarded within the wider British Empire, including Commonwealth countries, most of which now have their own honours systems. The medal was established on 7 July 1909 as the King's Police Medal (KPM), initially inspired by the need to recognise the gallantry of the police officers involved in the Tottenham Outrage. Defence Force Service Medal Award

The Defence Force Service Medal (DFSM) is an Australian Military award given for long service by permanent members of the Australian Defence Force. It is part of the suite of defence force service awards introduced in 1982, which also included the Reserve Force Decoration and the Reserve Force Medal.

Defence Long Service Medal Award

The Defence Long Service Medal is an Australian military award given for long service by permanent and reserve members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), irrespective of rank. National Medal (Australia) Award

The National Medal is an Australian award given for long service by operational members of specified eligible organisations. It was introduced in 1975, as an original component of the new Australian honours system, and replaced a range of medals available to military and civilian uniformed services for long service and good conduct. The eligible groups have in common that their members serve or protect the community at the risk of death, injury or trauma, hence it is only available to members of the eligible organisations who are operationally deployed. Rhodesia Medal Award

The Rhodesia Medal was initiated by the British Government in consultation with Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Kenya, whose forces took part in Operation AGILA. The role of the multi-national force was to keep peace between 22,000 guerrilla fighters and the Rhodesian forces during the ceasefire and run-up to the 1980 elections.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal Award

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal was established by royal warrant on 6 March 1934 by King George V. It is the oldest continually awarded honour within the Canadian honours system, and the first created specifically for Canadian service within Canada. The Western Australia Police Commissioner's Medal for Excellence was established to recognise Western Australia Police personnel who have consistently contributed to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the Western Australia Police.

The New South Wales Police Force Commissioner's Sesquicentenary Citation, also known as the Sesquicentenary 150th Citation is a decoration for police officers and unsworn personnel of the New South Wales Police Force. First instituted in 2012, the citations are a metal device, with thin silver surround, with navy blue and light blue striped enamel centre and silver numerals of '1862' '150' '2012' with a depiction of the State of NSW and silitoe tartan.

The State of New South Wales has created several independent honours to that of the Australian Honours System.
