The Western Province Ice Hockey Association (WPIHA, WP Ice Hockey) [1] [2] is a non-profit organization and member branch of South African Ice Hockey Federation in charge of governing ice hockey at all levels in Western Cape. It comprises 3 ice hockey teams, 110 players, 10 officials. [3] [4]

The Six Gun Grill Western Province is a first-class cricket team from the Western Cape province within the domestic cricket structure of South Africa. A Western Province team has played top-class cricket since the 1890s, including the franchise era team of Cape Cobras that existed between 2005 and 2021. The current Western Province team was re-formed for the 2021/22 season after the previous franchise structure was disbanded following CSA domestic reorganisation. Whereas many teams opted to keep their former franchise brands, Cape Cobras elected to return to their traditional name.

Professional ice hockey (hockey) is the competition of ice hockey in which participants are paid to play. Professional competition began in North America in the United States—in Pennsylvania and Michigan—and in Canada around 1900. Professional ice hockey expanded across Canada and the United States and eventually to many other countries. There are major leagues around the world, including the National Hockey League in North America, the Kontinental Hockey League in Europe and Asia, and the Swedish Hockey League in Europe, as well as minor leagues such as the American Hockey League and ECHL in North America, and the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey in Canada. High-level professional hockey is also present in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland and Switzerland; professional hockey is also played in many other countries, as diverse as Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia and Japan. The major professional women's league is the Professional Women's Hockey League, which began play in 2024.

Luke Asher Watson is a South African former rugby union footballer who can play at flank or eighthman. He has represented and captained the South African Schools rugby team (2001), South Africa's under-19 (2002) and under-21 (2004) teams, as well as the Springbok Sevens team (2001). Watson has also captained both the Western Province and the Super Rugby Stormers. He most recently played for the Eastern Province Kings.

John Fredrik Michael Pettersson is a Swedish former professional ice hockey right winger. He last played for the ZSC Lions in the National League (NL). He previously played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and HC Donbass in the Kontinental Hockey League, HC Lugano in the National League (NL) and Frölunda HC in Sweden. He played with the Swedish national team on several occasions and was a member of gold and bronze medal winning squads at the World Hockey Championship.

Earls Court Rangers were an early English ice hockey team that played in the English National League. They were formed in 1935 and disbanded in 1953. They played their home games at the Earls Court Arena in west London, England at Empress Hall; played only 9 seasons interrupted in 1939 by World War II.

Ronnie Wood is a retired Scottish professional ice hockey player who played between 1980 and 1993 in the United Kingdom. He is credited, with David Gardner-Brown, for creating the Sheffield Steelers in 1991, for whom he was also the General Manager between 1991 and February 1993.

Patrick Anthony Howard 'Paddy' Upton is a South African born cricket coach specialising as head coach in professional Twenty20 cricket, mental coach to professional athletes, sports scientist executive coach and professor of practice at Deakin University. He attained his master's degree in sports science at University of Cape Town.

The South African Ice Hockey Federation (SAIHF) is the governing body that oversees ice hockey in South Africa. It was the first African nation to join the International Ice Hockey Federation.

The 2009–10 QMJHL season was the 41st season of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The regular season, which consisted of eighteen teams playing 68 games each, began on September 10, 2009, and ended on March 14, 2010.

Michaela Lanzl is a German retired ice hockey forward. She represented Germany at the Olympic women's ice hockey tournaments in 2002 and 2006 and at six IIHF Women's World Championships.

Jessica Wong, also known by the Chinese name Wang Yuting, is a Canadian ice hockey player, a defenceman. She most recently played with the Chinese national ice hockey team and in the Zhenskaya Hockey League (ZhHL) with the KRS Vanke Rays during the 2021–22 season. She was drafted first overall in the 2013 CWHL Draft by the Calgary Inferno and played four seasons in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL).

Hamilton Rugby Football Club was founded in March 1875 in Cape Town, and states that it is the oldest rugby union club in South Africa. Hamilton RFC played in the first official match at Newlands Stadium on 31 May 1890.
