Westover High School is a public high school located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, United States. It is a member of Cumberland County Schools (CCS).
In the beginning there was a Westover but not a Westover built from brick and steel but a Westover built from wooden boards. In the early 1900s a small one room school house was built off what is now Morganton Road. Writing on simple desks and seated on wooden benches, students attended school only three months out of the year and teachers received only an average income of twenty dollars a month
On November 10, 1924 six county schools were consolidated. The school Macpherson, Glendale, Galatia, Raymount, Kornbow, and Westover came together to form Seventy-First. then for almost half a century, the name of Westover was all but forgotten. 50 years later the plans were once again made for a separate Westover. First the junior high was built and then two years later plans for the senior high followed.
The New school which cost approximately five million dollars to build encountered problems even before its completion. Work on the building fell behind schedule and school opened four months later. Consequently, the senior high school students had to go on a split shift with Westover junior High. The seventh through ninth graders attended school from 7:30am to 12:30pm. The high school students went to school from 1:30pm to 6:15pm
even after the move to the senior high at the end of October 1977, the building was still not completely finished but Westover was again a separate school. The first school year at Westover proved that Westover Senior high would stay forever. Even though much of the student body and faculty almost all came from seventy first most managed to put all that aside and start fresh as the Westover Wolverines.
The principle at the time of opening was Doctor Shipp
