The Digby Wharf Rat Rally is one of Canada's largest motorcycle rallies, attracting thousands of motorcycles, riders and other spectators to Digby, Nova Scotia. From August 31, to September 3, 2017 the Wharf Rat Rally had an overall attendance of more than 8,000 motorbikes and nearly 22,000 individual participants, including almost 17,000 out of town visitors. The Wharf Rat Rally is an annual five day event established in 2005, beginning the Wednesday prior to Labour Day Weekend and continuing until Sunday evening. The heart of the rally is the central town of Digby with events taking advantage of both the streetscape and the water. The event features a wide variety of activities including vendors, raffles, 50/50, watersport demonstrations, guided tours, live bands, stunt riders, demonstrations, custom bikes, ride outs, and workshops. Community events are strongly supported by the Rally:- providing visits to long-term care facilities; give a kid a ride event; memorial ride outs; blessing of the bikes. Funds are also raised on a variety of projects with the Philae Shriners, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 20, the Digby Search and Rescue, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Goldwing Road Riders Association.

The Rally's mission is to plan, organize, and host the best family-friendly motorcycle rally event in Canada, appealing to bikers and non-bikers alike, contributing to the economies of Digby, surrounding communities, and the province of Nova Scotia. The Wharf Rat Rally's volunteer creed is 'Integrity, Respect and Trust'.

Funded 50% by bike registrations to park downtown; 25% by federal, provincial and town grants; 25% by sponsors, advertisers and hosts.

Notable occurrences

In 2013, several of the 2014 Harley-Davidson models were introduced to the Canadian market at the event. [4]

In 2015 the event hosted Canadian musicians Matt Minglewood and Sam Moon, as well as Sons of Anarchy actors Kim Coates and Theo Rossi for autograph signings. [5]

The town is situated on the western shore of the Annapolis Basin near the entrance to the Digby Gut, which connects the basin to the Bay of Fundy.

Maud Lewis Nova Scotian folk artist

Maud Kathleen Lewis was a Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. Lewis lived most of her life in poverty in a small house in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, achieving national recognition in 1964 and 1965. She is best known for her cheerful paintings of landscapes, animals, and flowers, which offer a nostalgic and optimistic vision of her native province. Several books, plays and films have since been produced about her. Lewis remains one of Canada's most celebrated folk artists; her works and the restored Maud Lewis House are displayed in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

National Association for Bikers with a Disability

The National Association for Bikers with a Disability or NABD is a Registered Charity in the United Kingdom and in Scotland. The NABD gives technical advice and financial grants to help to adapt motorcycles, sidecars and trikes for use by disabled riders. It also gives advice on training and rider assessments. It owns a fleet of learner-legal motorcycles adapted for various disabilities, which it loans free of charge for training and tests.

Daytona Beach Bike Week

Daytona Beach Bike Week, also called Daytona Bike Week, is a motorcycle event and rally held annually in Daytona Beach, Florida. Approximately 500,000 people make their way to the rally area for the 10-day event. The festivities include motorcycle racing, concerts, parties, and street festivals. The event is usually held on the first full week of March and contends with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as the most popular motorcycle rally in the United States.

Laconia Motorcycle Week

Laconia Motorcycle Week is a motorcycle rally held annually in Laconia, New Hampshire, United States. The rally has its origin in the Loudon Classic motorcycle race started in 1916 and the Gypsy tour, during which many motorcyclists passed through Laconia. The scheduled events included races, shows and a motorcycle hill climb competition.

Buffalo Chip Campground

The Buffalo Chip Campground is an event venue in Meade County, South Dakota, United States. The campground is a place for motorcycle enthusiasts and music festival visitors each year, and has been since its founding in 1981. Host to a 10-day Concert Series and thousands of motorcyclists each August during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Buffalo Chip provides a music festival, various other forms of entertainment, and full service tent, RV and cabin camping on almost 600 acres in rural Meade County. The motorcycle and music festival also features entertainment including multiple disciplines of racing, exhibits, beauty pageants, dance performances, bike shows, world-record-breaking stunts, midget bowling, and military tributes.

The Quail Motorcycle Gathering is a motorcycle rally and Concours d'Elegance held annually since 2009 at Carmel, California. Quail participants show bikes, and 100 of them ride the California Highway Patrol motor unit escorted 112 mile Quail Ride around Carmel Valley, which includes three fast laps on the track at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This event evolved from "Legends of the Motorcycle" which had been held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Half Moon Bay, CA for a run of three previous years (2006-2008). The location was changed by organizer Gordon McCall to the Quail Lodge and Golf Club, and is run by Peninsula Events. The Quail Ride is held the Friday before the Saturday show date in May, and there is also another ride on show morning called the Cycle World Tour, a fifty-mile organized but unescorted ride that includes a buffet breakfast along the ocean waterfront in Pacific Grove, CA.

European Bike Week

European Bike Week is an annual motorcycle rally held at Lake Faak in Austria. Attendance in 2018 was 200,000 people, the largest rally in Europe and the third largest worldwide.

Seafest is a 10-day festival in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Since 1979 locals and visitors have come together every summer to celebrate the food, culture, and life of our coastal community.

The Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally is an annual motorcycle rally at Hells Canyon that meets in Baker City in the state of Oregon, United States. It was started c. 2000 by Steve Folkestad and a brother.

The Bacchus Motorcycle Club (BMC) is a one-percenter motorcycle club in Canada. Founded in Albert County, New Brunswick, in 1972, Bacchus MC has chapters in five Canadian provinces. The club is designated a criminal organization under the Criminal Code.
