The WhistleStop Marathon and Half Marathon is an annual road running competition held in October in Ashland, Wisconsin, in the United States. The course runs point-to-point and is held on the Tri-County Corridor, a rail-trail now paved with limestone gravel. The course stretches from two miles east of Iron River, Wisconsin and features ten re-decked railroad trestles, wetlands, trout streams, Chequamegon National Forest woodlands, dairy farms, residential neighborhoods and traffic-free quiet. The finish is located near Ashland's Bay Area Civic Center. The WhistleStop Marathon is USATF certified (#WI98019WG).
The WhistleStop Marathon and Half Marathon was first run in 1997. In 2006 the marathon accommodated 600 runners while the half marathon accommodated 1,000 runners.
The female record time for the WhistleStop Marathon is 2:47:19, set in 2012 by St. Louis Park, Minnesota runner Jenelle Deatherage. The male record time for the WhistleStop Marathon is 2:28:41, set in 2007 by Duluth, Minnesota runner Eric Hartmark.
The female record time for the WhistleStop Half Marathon is 1:21:43, set in 1999 by Maple, Wisconsin runner Sarah Anderson. The male record time for the WhistleStop Half Marathon is 1:08:36, set in 2006 by Minot, North Dakota runner Abraham Wengel.

Ashland is a city in Ashland and Bayfield counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The city is a port on Lake Superior, near the head of Chequamegon Bay. The population was 7,908 at the 2020 census, all of whom resided in the Ashland County portion of the city. The unpopulated Bayfield County portion is in the city's southwest, bordered by the easternmost part of the Town of Eileen.

Kipchoge is the 2016 and 2020 Olympic marathon champion, and was the world record holder in the marathon from 2018 to 2023, until that record was broken by Kelvin Kiptum at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. Kipchoge has run 3 of the 10 fastest marathons in history.
Ryan Hall is a retired American long-distance runner who held the U.S. record in the half marathon from 2007 to 2025. With his half marathon record time (59:43), he became the first U.S. runner to break the one-hour barrier in the event. He is also the only American to run a sub-2:05 marathon. However, this time is not eligible to be a record due to the course being point-to-point and a net-downhill course. Hall won the marathon at the 2008 United States Olympic trials and placed tenth in the Olympic marathon in Beijing.

The Fargo Marathon is an annual road running marathon in Fargo, North Dakota, first held in 2005. Most years, it begins and ends inside the Fargodome, and the course also travels through Moorhead, Minnesota, Fargo's twin city. The event weekend also hosts a half marathon, 10K, and 5K. The Prague Half Marathon is an annual half marathon road running event which takes place in Spring on the city streets of Prague, Czech Republic, first held in 1999. It is managed by the same organisation that holds the Prague Marathon in May. The race has a loop course, starting and ending in Jan Palach Square near the Rudolfinum, and largely follows the Vltava river. The competition has enjoyed an increasing level of participation, with around 6500 participants in 2009 and almost 8500 runners taking part in the 2010 event.

Ric Sayre was a nationally renowned American runner, best known for his ability to compete at the elite level in numerous marathons each year. Sayre’s most noted achievement was winning the inaugural Los Angeles Marathon in 1986 with a career-best time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, and 59 seconds. The next year, in 1987, Sayre won the United States national marathon championship. He was also one of only four American men who have qualified in the marathon for the U.S. Olympic Trials five times. Sayre also excelled as a trail runner.
Molly Seidel is an American long distance runner. Seidel represented the United States at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country in 2012, 2013, and 2018. In her first-ever marathon, Seidel placed second at the 2020 U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials. Later, she went on to win the bronze medal in her third career marathon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. At the University of Notre Dame, Seidel was a 4-time NCAA champion, 6-time NCAA All-American, 6-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion and 2016 female ACC Athlete of the Year.
The Madeline Island Marathon and Half Marathon is an annual road running competition held in May at La Pointe, Wisconsin, located on Madeline Island, United States. The course runs point-to-point, with out-and-back portions. The course follows a scenic route, which is mostly paved, but also includes sections of gravel road. The route features scenic woodlands and Lake Superior views, in a rural setting. Joni's Beach on Madeline Island serves as the starting and ending point.

The Eau Claire Marathon is an annual marathon that takes place in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in the United States. The race starts and finishes at Phoenix Park and features views of the Chippewa River. In 2023, RaceRaves announced the Eau Claire was the best marathon in Wisconsin based on feedback they received. Similarly, the half marathon accompanying the Eau Claire Marathon received similar honors in 2024.
