The Wichita Falls Sailing Club is a Sailing Club located in Henrietta, Texas (United States), on the shore of Lake Arrowhead. [1]

History

Wichita Falls Sailing Club was founded in 1935 as Wichita Falls Yacht Club at Lake Wichita, in Wichita Falls. In 1973, the club moved to Lake Arrowhead. [2]

Fleets

The club was first dominated by the Snipe fleet number 34, based at the club, [3] but in the 1960s the Windmill took over as the most popular boat. In the early 1970s, the first cabin boats, Venture 22 and 24, and in 1990 Flying Scot fleet number 170 was established at WFSC. [4]

Sailors

Perry Richardson Bass won the 1935 Snipe Worlds. Later on, in 1972, as navigator for Ted Turner's "American Eagle", he won the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit and the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. [5]

The WoodPussy is a 13½’ catboat designed by Philip Rhodes. The first boats were constructed in 1945 by Palmer Scott Boat Works. These boats were wood with wooden masts. The class switched to fiberglass hulls, dacron sails and aluminum masts in the early 1960s. It is estimated that 800-850 hulls were constructed by Palmer Scott, MarScott and O'Day. The Weeks Yacht Yard in New York is now building new fiberglass WoodPussys.

The Neenah Nodaway Yacht Club (NNYC) is based in Neenah, Wisconsin and was established in 1864. This makes it one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country. Since its formation the NNYC has been committed to promoting sailing for individuals of all ages through sponsorships of club racing and cruising for a wide variety of boats. NNYC participates in Lake Winnebago events, helping to support the Fox Valley Sailing School and many other community events. When the NNYC was formed it set out to accomplish several goals:

  1. To promote pleasure sailing and racing on Lake Winnebago.
  2. To establish a standard code of rules and signals for the Lake.
  3. To discourage extravagant expenditure in yachting.

The Wawasee Yacht Club was formed in 1935 and is located at 6338 E Trusdell Ave. on the northeast shore of Lake Wawasee, Indiana. It currently has 75 families and 35 social members sailing 28-foot E-Scow, 19-foot Lightning, and 13-foot Sunfish class boats in three regattas held from June through early October.
