William Mendiola Castro (is an American politician and lawyer. A member of the Republican Party,Castro is a former candidate for Guam's at-large congressional district in the 2020 United States House of Representatives election in Guam. He was previously a member of the Guam Legislature and was the minority leader from 2019 to 2021. [1] He is currently the chief of staff for the Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands,Arnold Palacios. [2]
Robert Anacletus Underwood is an American politician and educator who served as the delegate from Guam to the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003 as a member of the Democratic Party. He subsequently served as the president of the University of Guam from 2008 to 2018 and is currently a co-chair of the United States Institute of Peace China-Freely Associated States Senior Study Group.

Benjamin Joseph "BJ" Franquez Cruz is a Chamorro lawyer,jurist,and politician who served as the Speaker of the 34th Guam Legislature from 2017 to 2018 and as Vice Speaker from 2009 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously served in the Guam Legislature from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2008 to 2018. He was Chief Justice of the Guam Supreme Court from 1999 to 2001. Frank Barrows Freyer was a United States Navy captain who served as the 14th Naval Governor of Guam. Freyer graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1902,having played several collegiate sports there. The Navy assigned him to many different ships,including having him participate in the Great White Fleet and its visit to Japan. Soon after,he was transferred to the Naval Base Guam,where he served as assistant to the Commandant before from November 5,1910,to January 21,1911,he became acting governor of the island. As governor,he suspended the licenses of all midwives on the island because of an alarming rate of infection,requiring them all to be re-certified. After George Salisbury relieved him of the position,Freyer became his aide.
William John Maxwell was a United States Navy officer who served as the 18th Naval Governor of Guam. He entered the United States Naval Academy in 1874,but was not commissioned as an ensign until 1883. He served aboard many ships before becoming one of the inaugural members of the General Board of the United States Navy. Afterward,he commanded both USS Mississippi and USS Florida.
Adelbert Althouse was a United States Navy Captain who served as the 27th and 29th Naval Governor of Guam. Prior to his Governorship,he served on ships in the Navy and participated in both the Spanish–American War and World War I. He earned the Navy Cross for his actions commanding USS Brooklyn and serving as Chief of Staff for the Commander and Chief of the United States Asiatic Fleet during the World War. As Governor,he focused on reforming the island's education system. He modeled a new system after that of co-educational California but also outlawed the speaking of the Chamorro language at schools in an effort to improve the English language skills of the local children. Most of his education reform took place in his first term.
Alfred Winsor Brown II was a United States Navy captain who served as the 31st naval governor of Guam. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1907,serving aboard a number of ships in many different capacities soon after. He returned to the academy on staff before serving as the first commanding officer of USS Tingey. From 1924 to 1926,he served as Guamanian governor before attending the Naval War College and serving on the staff of a number of high-ranking naval officers. He then served as commanding officer of USS Whitney and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Soon after assuming command of USS Arizona,Brown died of a heart attack.
Michael Franklin Quitugua San Nicolas is a Guamanian Democratic Party politician,who served as the delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives for Guam's at-large congressional district from 2019 to 2023. San Nicolas was elected by his colleagues in the 116th United States Congress to serve as vice chair of the United States House Committee on Financial Services. Rather than run for reelection in 2022,San Nicholas ran and lost in the Democratic primary of the 2022 Guamanian gubernatorial election. From 2013 to 2019,San Nicolas served as senator in the 32nd,33rd,and 34th Guam legislatures.

Lourdes Aflague "Lou" Leon Guerrero is an American politician and former nurse who has served as the 9th governor of Guam since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party,Guerrero is the first woman to serve in the position. Leon Guerrero had served in the Guam Legislature from 1995 to 1999 and again from 2001 to 2007. From 2007 to 2017,Leon Guerrero was president and CEO of the Bank of Guam.
The 2018 Guam gubernatorial election took place on Tuesday,November 6,2018,to elect the Governor of Guam. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Guam are elected on the same ticket. Incumbent Republican Governor Eddie Baza Calvo,who won reelection in 2014,was ineligible to ineligible to run for a third consecutive term in office.

The Democratic Party won nine of the fifteen seats in the Legislature and maintained control of Guam's delegate seat. The fifteen elected members of the 34th Guam Legislature were inaugurated on January 2,2017.
Legislative elections were held in Guam on Tuesday,November 6,2018,along with the election for the Guam delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. Before the election,the Democratic Party held nine of the fifteen seats in the Legislature while the Republican Party held six seats. The election resulted in a gain of one seat for the Democrats and a loss of one seat for Republicans. Democrats also won the race for Guam's US House Delegate.
Joshua "Josh" Franquez Tenorio is a Guamanian politician and businessman currently serving as the 10th Lieutenant Governor of Guam since January 7,2019. He is the first openly gay lieutenant governor elected in the United States and is a member of the Democratic Party.
Guam competed at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia,Samoa from 7 to 20 July 2019. A team of 150 athletes and staff was sent to represent the territory in eleven disciplines at the games.
Guam,one of the external territories of the United States of America confirmed its first case of the COVID-19 pandemic on March 15,2020,and the first death on March 22. The Government of Guam ordered the general lockdown of the island in mid-March. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero announced the implementation of a four-step "Pandemic Condition of Readiness" (PCOR) on April 30,2020. Travelers to Guam from designated high-risk areas must provide a recent negative COVID-19 test or undergo mandatory quarantine in a government-approved facility. Guam moved from PCOR 1 to PCOR 2 on May 10,allowing some business activity with restrictions,and then to PCOR 3 on July 20. An outbreak in mid-August was not controlled for several months,resulting in the 7-day rolling test positivity rate to spike above 15% in early October 2020,as well as infections in both the Governor and Lieutenant Governor. Guam announced a return to the lockdown conditions of PCOR 1 on August 14 to control the outbreak,which was not loosened to PCOR 2 until January 15,2021. It was further relaxed to PCOR 3 on February 21,2021. From December 2020 to July 2021 cases stayed very low until a surge in August 2021 largely as a result of the delta variant. By October 2021,90% of the population was vaccinated.
