William F. Jones (March 30,1813 - October 27,1890) was a Republican politician and both the fourth and sixth mayor of Muncie,Indiana. He also was a state representative,a member of the Muncie City Council,and the Muncie School Board. He is buried in Beech Grove Cemetery.
He was a resident of Ohio from 1832 to 1842 and Hartford City from 1842 to 1852. [1]

Helen Merrell Lynd was an American sociologist,social philosopher,educator,and author. She is best known for conducting the first Middletown studies of Muncie,Indiana,with her husband,Robert Staughton Lynd;as the coauthor of Middletown:A Study in Contemporary American Culture (1929) and Middletown in Transition:A Study in Cultural Conflicts (1937);and a pioneer in the use of social surveys. She was also the author of England in the 1880s:Toward a Social Basis for Freedom (1945),Shame and the Search for Identity (1958),and essays on academic freedom. In addition to writing and research,Lynd was a lecturer at Vassar College,and a professor at Sarah Lawrence College from 1929 to 1964.
U.S. Route 35 (US 35) is a United States Highway that runs southeast-northwest for approximately 412 miles (663 km) from the western suburbs of Charleston,West Virginia to northern Indiana. Although the highway is physically southeast-northwest,it is nominally north–south. The highway's southern terminus is in Teays Valley,West Virginia,near Scott Depot,at Interstate 64 (I-64). Its northern terminus is near Michigan City,Indiana,at US 20. The West Virginia portion of the highway is mostly expressway,becoming a freeway shortly before it crosses the Ohio River into Ohio. The Ohio portion has been upgraded to a four-lane highway/freeway between the West Virginia state line and Trotwood,west of Dayton.
The Ball brothers were five American industrialists and philanthropists who established a manufacturing business in New York and Indiana in the 1880s that was renamed the Ball Corporation in 1969. The Ball brothers' firm became a global manufacturer of plastic and metal food and beverage containers as well as a manufacturer of equipment and supplier of services to the aerospace industry. In addition to the brothers' manufacturing business,they were also noted for their philanthropy and community service. Earnings from their business ventures provided the financial resources to support a number of other projects in the community of Muncie,Indiana,and elsewhere. Most notably,the brothers became benefactors of several Muncie institutions including Ball State University,Ball Memorial Hospital,the YMCA,Ball stores department store,and Minnetrista. The Ball Brothers Foundation,established in 1926,continues the family's philanthropic interests.

The Cardinal Greenway (TGC) is a multi-use recreational network combining a rail trail and an on-street route that together cross 62 miles (100 km) and five counties —in east central Indiana. The greenway,which was designated a National Recreation Trail in June 2003 and in 2018 was named to the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's "Rail Trail Hall of Fame." uses the former CSX railroad track between Richmond and Marion. It is named after the Cardinal,the last regular passenger train service on the (Chicago-Cincinnati-Washington) route. Currently it is Indiana's longest rail trail project.

William Herbert Hudnut III was an American author and politician who served as the 45th mayor of Indianapolis from 1976 to 1992. A Republican,his four terms made him the city's longest-serving mayor. George Caleb Wright,AIA,was an American architect from Indiana. He was a partner in the Indianapolis,Indiana,architectural firms of Pierre &Wright,Vonnegut,Wright &Yeager,and Wright,Porteous &Lowe,and was later chief building inspector for the City of Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis mayoral election of 1929 took place on November 5,1929,and saw Democrat Reginald H. Sullivan in a landslide victory. Incumbent mayor,Democrat Lemuel Ertus Slack,had been appointed mayor in 1927 following the resignation of Republican John L. Duvall after he was charged with corruption by the state.
