William Joseph Shields, known professionally as Barry Fitzgerald, was an Irish stage, film and television actor. In a career spanning almost forty years, he appeared in such notable films as Bringing Up Baby (1938), The Long Voyage Home (1940), How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Sea Wolf (1941), Going My Way (1944), None but the Lonely Heart (1944) and The Quiet Man (1952). For Going My Way (1944), he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and was simultaneously nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was the older brother of Irish actor Arthur Shields. In 2020, he was listed at number 11 on The Irish Times list of Ireland's greatest film actors.
Lord Edward FitzGerald was an Irish aristocrat and nationalist. He abandoned his prospects as a distinguished veteran of British service in the American War of Independence, and as an Irish Parliamentarian, to embrace the cause of an independent Irish republic. Unable to reconcile with Ireland's Protestant Ascendancy or with the Kingdom's English-appointed administration, he sought inspiration in revolutionary France where, in 1792, he met and befriended Thomas Paine. From 1796 he became a leading proponent within the Society of United Irishmen of a French-assisted insurrection. On the eve of the intended uprising in May 1798, he was fatally wounded in the course of arrest.
John Francis "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald was an American Democratic politician from Boston, Massachusetts. Fitzgerald served as mayor of Boston and a member of the United States House of Representatives. He also made unsuccessful runs for the United States Senate in 1916 and 1942 and governor of Massachusetts in 1922. Fitzgerald maintained a high profile in the city whether in or out of office, and his theatrical style of campaigning and charisma earned him the nickname "Honey Fitz".

Maurice Fitzgerald is an Irish Gaelic football selector and former player. His league and championship career at senior level with the Kery county team spanned fourteen seasons from 1988 to 2001.
David Carler Fitzgerald is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He has been manager of the Waterford county team since 2022, having previously managed the team between 2008 and 2011. As a player, he is widely considered to be one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation.

Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald Kennedy was an American philanthropist, socialite, and matriarch of the Kennedy family. She was deeply embedded in the "lace curtain" Irish American community in Boston. Her father, John F. Fitzgerald, served in the Massachusetts State Senate (1892–1894), in the U.S. House of Representatives, and as Mayor of Boston. Her husband, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., chaired the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (1934-1935) and the U.S. Maritime Commission (1937–1938), and served as United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom (1938–1940). Their nine children included United States President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy of New York, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Jean Kennedy Smith. In 1951, Rose Kennedy was ennobled by Pope Pius XII, becoming the sixth American woman to be granted the rank of Papal countess.

Desmond Fitzgerald is a former Irish rugby union international player who played for the Irish national rugby union team. He played as a prop forward. He played for the Ireland team from 1984 to 1992, winning 34 caps, after making his debut in February 1984 against England in a 12–9 defeat at Twickenham. He played in two Rugby World Cups: 1987 and 1991. He is the father of Irish International rugby player Luke Fitzgerald.

Martin Fitzgerald was an Irish politician. Born in what is now Casey's Hardware Store on Main Street, Charlestown, County Mayo, he moved to Dublin at an early age. He was an Independent member of Seanad Éireann from 1922 to 1927. He was nominated to the Seanad by the President of the Executive Council in 1922 for 12 years. He died in office in 1927.
Patrick Joseph Hooper was an Irish politician, barrister and journalist. In 1915 was called to the English and Welsh bar by Gray's Inn. Hooper was the last editor of the Freeman's Journal. Imprisoned for a month in 1920 along with Fitzgerald and Edwards, for publishing an article about British Army/Black and Tans brutality. He was an Independent member of Seanad Éireann from 1927 to 1931. A journalist, he was elected at a by-election on 23 March 1927 taking the seat vacated by the death of Martin Fitzgerald. He was Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Seanad from 6 May 1931 until his death in September 1931. George Crosbie was elected at a by-election to replace him.
Conor Fitzgerald is an Irish rugby union player for Connacht in the United Rugby Championship. He plays primarily as a fly-half, and represents Shannon in the All-Ireland League.
