William Richard Henry Hanson (born 2 September 1989) is a British etiquette coach, Sunday Times bestselling author, [1] and host of podcasts Help I Sexted My Boss and Keeping Up Appearances: The Luxury Podcast. He is currently the executive director and owner of The English Manner, an etiquette and protocol coaching company. [2] [3]

Early life

William Richard Henry Hanson [4] [5] was born on 2 September 1989 [6] [7] in Bristol, England. [8] He boarded at Clifton College, a private school in Bristol, [9] before attending University of Manchester. [10]

Career

Hanson has appeared on various news outlets as an etiquette expert. He is also credited as being an etiquette advisor on Red, White & Royal Blue (2023). [8]

On 20 March 2018, Hanson and co-host Jordan North began the podcast Help I Sexted My Boss. [11] The podcast's signature cocktail is a gin and Dubonnet (G&D). This drink was loved by the Queen Mother and was drunk by Elizabeth II until her own death; it was popularised by the podcast resulting in a nation-wide shortage of ingredients following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022. [12]

In November 2019, he was a visiting lecturer at the Georgetown University in Qatar teaching etiquette. [13]

In 2020 he attended the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. [14]

On 11 February 2021, the Acast hosted rewatch podcast, Keeping Up Appearances: The Luxury Podcast began with co-host Jonathan Vernon-Smith, it has since released 39 episodes as of 6 February 2024. [15]

Personal life

On 16 September 2022, Hanson married journalist Mikey Worrall. [16] His brother James, formerly from BBC Radio Bristol, is now a presenter on Times Radio. [17] [18] William's father, Brian, was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for political service in the 1996 Birthday Honours. [19]

Keeping Up Appearances is a British sitcom created and written by Roy Clarke. It originally aired on BBC1 from 1990 to 1995. The central character is an eccentric and snobbish middle class social climber, Hyacinth Bucket, who insists that her surname is pronounced "Bouquet". The show consisted of five series and 44 episodes, four of which were Christmas specials. Production ended in 1995 after Routledge decided to move on to other projects. All 44 episodes have since been released on video, DVD and streaming media, and are regularly repeated on television networks throughout the world.
