Fredericksburg is an independent city in Virginia,United States. As of the 2020 census,the population was 27,982. It is 48 miles (77 km) south of Washington,D.C.,and 53 miles (85 km) north of Richmond. The Bureau of Economic Analysis of the United States Department of Commerce combines the city of Fredericksburg with neighboring Spotsylvania County for statistical purposes.

The Virginia Central Railroad was an early railroad in the U.S. state of Virginia that operated between 1850 and 1868 from Richmond westward for 206 miles (332 km) to Covington. Chartered in 1836 as the Louisa Railroad by the Virginia General Assembly,the railroad began near the Richmond,Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad's line and expanded westward to Orange County,reaching Gordonsville by 1840. In 1849,the Blue Ridge Railroad was chartered to construct a line over the Blue Ridge Mountains for the Louisa Railroad which reached the base of the Blue Ridge in 1852. After a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court,the Louisa Railroad was allowed to expand eastward from a point near Doswell to Richmond.

The Richmond and Petersburg Railroad moved passengers and goods between Richmond and Petersburg from 1838 to 1898. It survived the American Civil War and eventually merged into the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1900.

Waller Redd Staples was an American lawyer,law professor,judge,slave-owner and politician who was briefly a member of the Virginia General Assembly before the American Civil War,became a Congressman serving the Confederate States of America during the war,and after receiving a pardon at the war's end became a judge of the Virginia Court of Appeals,and law professor at Washington and Lee University,as well as revisor of Virginia's laws (1884-1887).
William Joseph Robertson was born in Culpeper County,Virginia in 1817. He attended the University of Virginia from 1834 to 1836 and again in 1841. After graduating,he was admitted to the bar in 1843,settled in Charlottesville to practice law,and won election as Commonwealth's Attorney for Albemarle County,Virginia in 1852. His Charlottesville home,the Judge William J. Robertson House,was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
The CSX A-Line Bridge is a double-track concrete bridge that carries the North End Subdivision of CSX Transportation over the James River in Richmond,Virginia. The bridge was built jointly by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Richmond,Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad in 1919. Designed by John E. Greiner,this bridge was one of many he drew up for the RF&P,and brought early success to his recently established private consulting business. The purpose of this "million dollar bridge" was to create a quicker,more direct route around Richmond by passing over east–west tracks on both sides of the river.

The Grand Lodge of Virginia was constituted on 30 October 1778,with headquarters in Williamsburg,Virginia. The grand lodge relocated its offices to Richmond,Virginia,in 1784,where it remains to this day.
Samuel Lightfoot Flournoy was an American lawyer,politician,and businessperson in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Flournoy served as a state senator representing the 12th Senatorial District in the West Virginia Senate (1885–1890) and served three terms as mayor of Romney,West Virginia. Flournoy unsuccessfully ran as a candidate for the West Virginia Democratic Party gubernatorial nomination in 1900.
William C. Clayton was an American educator,lawyer,politician,and businessperson in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Clayton served in the West Virginia Senate representing the Eleventh Senatorial District of West Virginia from 1875 until 1879. He was twice principal of the Romney Classical Institute in Romney in 1853 and 1866.
The 26th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
The North End Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in Virginia and North Carolina. The line runs from Richmond,Virginia,to Rocky Mount,North Carolina,for a total of 123.2 miles. At its north end the line continues south from the Richmond Terminal Subdivision and at its south end the line continues south as the South End Subdivision. The North End Subdivision is the northernmost segment of CSX's A Line which in its entirety runs from Richmond to Tampa,Florida. Some of the line's notable features include running in the median of Interstate 195 in Richmond as well as the line's tall arch bridge over the James River.
Conway Robinson was a Virginia lawyer,author,slaveholder and politician aligned with the Democratic Party who represented Richmond,Virginia during the 1852-1853 session of the Virginia House of Delegates. He also served many years on Richmond's City Council and like his brother Moncure Robinson headed the Richmond,Fredericksburg and Petersburg railroad.
Eppa Hunton III,known as Eppa Hunton Jr.,was an American attorney. The son of General Eppa Hunton,he experienced a turbulent childhood with the American Civil War and Reconstruction as its backdrop. After graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law,he practiced law with his father in Warrenton,Virginia,for a number of years before moving south to Richmond in 1901 to help found the law firm Munford,Hunton,Williams &Anderson.
