William J. Warren, CM QC (born 1939) is a Canadian lawyer who was the chancellor of the University of Calgary in Alberta from 2002 until 2006. [1] Warren was named to the Alberta bar in 1963 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984. [2] He also chaired the Calgary Olympic Development Association for the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. [3] He is also a member of the Order of Canada,appointed in 2003. [4]
The University of Calgary is a public research university located in Calgary,Alberta,Canada. The University of Calgary started in 1944 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta,founded in 1908,prior to being instituted into a separate,autonomous university in 1966. Frederick Lee Morton,known commonly as Ted Morton,is an American-Canadian politician and former cabinet minister in the Alberta government. He did not win reelection in the 2012 Alberta general election. Morton was a candidate for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Association in its 2006 and 2011 leadership elections. On April 15,2014,Matthew de Grood,son of Calgary Police Inspector Doug de Grood,stabbed five young adults to death at a house party in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Calgary,Alberta,Canada. The party was several blocks away from the University of Calgary campus,and held to mark the end of its school year. It was Calgary's deadliest massacre.
Peter Connellan is a retired Canadian football coach. He coached the University of Calgary Dinos football team from 1983 to 1995. Under his leadership,the Dinos won Canada West championships in 1977,1983,1984,1985,1988,1992,1993,and 1995,as well as the Vanier Cup championship in 1983,1985,1988,and 1995. Connellan was inducted into the Dinos' Hall of Fame in 2008,the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1998,and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1977 and 1983,he won the Frank Tindall Trophy as the CIS coach of the year. He was also a professor in the department of physical education at the University of Calgary.
