The University of Calgary is a public research university located in Calgary,Alberta,Canada. The University of Calgary started in 1944 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta,founded in 1908,prior to being instituted into a separate,autonomous university in 1966. It is composed of 14 faculties and over 85 research institutes and centres. The main campus is located in the northwest quadrant of the city near the Bow River and a smaller south campus is located in the city centre. The main campus houses most of the research facilities and works with provincial and federal research and regulatory agencies,several of which are housed next to the campus such as the Geological Survey of Canada. The main campus covers approximately 200 hectares.

Frederick Lee Morton,known commonly as Ted Morton,is an American-Canadian politician and former cabinet minister in the Alberta government. As a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta,he represented the constituency of Foothills-Rocky View as a Progressive Conservative from 2004 to 2012. He did not win reelection in the 2012 Alberta general election. Morton was a candidate for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Association in its 2006 and 2011 leadership elections. Morton is currently Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Calgary.

On April 15,2014,Matthew de Grood,son of Calgary Police Inspector Doug de Grood,stabbed five young adults to death at a house party in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Calgary,Alberta,Canada. The party was several blocks away from the University of Calgary campus,and held to mark the end of its school year. It was Calgary's deadliest massacre.
Peter Connellan is a retired Canadian football coach. He coached the University of Calgary Dinos football team from 1983 to 1995. Under his leadership,the Dinos won Canada West championships in 1977,1983,1984,1985,1988,1992,1993,and 1995,as well as the Vanier Cup championship in 1983,1985,1988,and 1995. Connellan was inducted into the Dinos' Hall of Fame in 2008,the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1998,and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1977 and 1983,he won the Frank Tindall Trophy as the CIS coach of the year. He was also a professor in the department of physical education at the University of Calgary.
Muriel Kovitz C.M. LL.D LRSM served as the Chancellor of the University of Calgary in Alberta from 1974 until 1978. She was the first female to hold the position. Other involvement at the University of Calgary included a member of the Senate (1970) and Chairman of the Senate Executive Committee,a member of the Board of Governors (1972) and a member of the Board of Governors Executive Committee,all prior to being elected as Chancellor. She is a Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Calgary.

From 1988 to 1996,he was president and vice-chancellor of Brock University,and prior to that the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. Kenneth Michael King was a Canadian sports executive. He was the vice chairman of Calgary Sports and Entertainment,as well as alternate governor of the Calgary Flames in the NHL. He was the chairman and governor of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL),and the Calgary Hitmen's governor of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Norman R.C. Campbell is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Calgary,where he served as professor of Medicine,Community Health Sciences and Physiology and Pharmacology and as a member of the O'Brien Institute for Public Health and Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.
