A. Wilson Hall was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s who represented New Zealand and later played at club level in England for Hull FC, Castleford and Dewsbury.
From the Ngaruawahia club, [3] Wilson Hall represented South Auckland in 1922. [4] He was a half for South Auckland and the North Island in 1925.
In 1923 he moved to Auckland and played for the Athletic club. He represented Auckland in a match against South Auckland for the Northern Union Challenge Cup which was drawn 20-20. [5] Later in the same season he played against Auckland for the Auckland Province. The match was played at Carlaw Park and saw his side go down 18–44 with him scoring a try for the 'visiting team'. [6]
In 1926 he moved to Christchurch. Wilson Hall then represented the Hornby club, Canterbury and the South Island. [7]
He was selected for New Zealand's tour of Great Britain in 1926. [8] [9] He played in two test matches against Great Britain and one against Wales. [1]
In 1927 the international transfer ban for players was lifted and many New Zealanders who had toured were signed by English clubs. Wilson Hall received interested from Halifax in June, [7] before signing with the Swinton club. [10]
Wilson Hall then joined Castleford, [11] and played in Castleford's victory in the Yorkshire League during the 1932–33 season. [2]
Hall was granted a free transfer by Castleford in September 1935 in recognition of his services. [12]

William Batten was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s, 1910s and 1920s. He played at representative level for Great Britain, England and Yorkshire, and at club level for Hunslet, Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity, and Castleford, as a fullback, wing, or centre. He is noted as one of the greatest of his era, one of the game's first superstars, Batten was a brilliant athlete and a huge crowd-puller – and also well aware of his own worth. In 1988 he became one of the inaugural inductees of the Rugby Football League Hall of Fame. Batten is also a member of the Hull FC, and Wakefield Trinity halls of fame.
Dean Sampson is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played as a prop, and spent the majority of his professional career at the Castleford Tigers, with spells in Australia for Gold Coast and the Parramatta Eels. Sampson made over 400 appearances for Castleford (Tigers) between 1987 and 2005. He also represented England and Great Britain at international level, and was selected to go on the 1992 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand.
