Wind Lea was built in 1815 by Edward McCarty and his sons and is the oldest building in Keyser. The structure played an important role during the Civil War when it served both as a prison and a hospital. [1] The home is now divided into private residences.

Mineral County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is part of the Cumberland metropolitan area, together with Cumberland, Maryland. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,938. Its county seat is Keyser. The county was founded in 1866.
The eastern panhandle is one of the two panhandles in the U.S. state of West Virginia; the other is the northern panhandle. It is a small stretch of territory in the northeast of the state, bordering Maryland and Virginia. Some sources and regional associations only identify the eastern panhandle as being composed of Morgan, Berkeley, and Jefferson Counties. Berkeley and Jefferson Counties are geographically located in the Shenandoah Valley. West Virginia is the only U.S. state with two panhandles.
Maclyn McCarty was an American geneticist, a research scientist described in 2005 as "the last surviving member of a Manhattan scientific team that overturned medical dogma in the 1940s and became the first to demonstrate that genes were made of DNA." He had worked at Rockefeller University "for more than 60 years." 1994 marked 50 years since this work's release.
New Creek is an 18.4-mile-long (29.6 km) stream in eastern West Virginia, United States. It is the third major West Virginia tributary to the North Branch Potomac River. Via the Potomac, it is part of the watershed of Chesapeake Bay.
Longs Island is an island on the North Branch Potomac River nearly one mile long and contains the Long family farm, and is known for the corn it produces from the rich river silt laden soil. Longs Island lies in Allegany County Maryland, but is only accessible from Mineral County, West Virginia near Keyser. The island lies across the North Branch from McCoole, Maryland, but is in Maryland as the state boundary is the low water mark on the West Virginia side of the river.

Limestone Run is a 4.6-mile-long (7.4 km) stream that lies to the east of New Creek Mountain in Mineral County, West Virginia. It is a tributary of the North Branch Potomac River.
Dans Run is a 2.3-mile-long (3.7 km) non-navigable tributary stream of the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, West Virginia. Dans Run rises to the east of Patterson Creek Mountain and empties into the North Branch at the community of Dans Run on the old Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Dans Run Island in the North Branch Potomac, at its confluence with Dans Run, is also named for the small stream.
Hogue Creek is a 17.3-mile-long (27.8 km) tributary stream of Back Creek in Frederick County, Virginia. Hogue Creek rises on Great North Mountain and flows into Back Creek at Graves Hill.

The Mineral Belt National Recreation Trail is an 11.6 mile all-season biking/walking trail that loops around Leadville, Colorado, and through its historic mining district. The trail's setting is quintessentially Colorado Rocky Mountain landscape. Groves of aspen, conifer forests, wildflower meadows, and open vista sage parks are interspersed with once-booming mine sites. Ever-present views of the Sawatch and Mosquito mountain ranges provide perspective and a sense of permanence to the area. Several signs along the way provide historical snippets about Leadville's colorful past. The trail is designed for bicycles, longboards, walkers, wheelchairs, strollers and in-line skaters. When the snow falls, snowcats groom the trail to provide access to Nordic skiers, snowshoers and winter-bikers.
