In a review for JazzWax, Marc Myers wrote that, on the album, Shank "wasn't turning on or selling out. Instead, his hard sound and all-out blowing on alto sax and flute gave the music a speeding-MG, mid-life crisis sophistication. On Windmills of Your Mind, he fed Michel Legrand's jazz-based pop melodies through the Bud Shank jazz grinder, resisting the temptation to convert the film tunes into adult contemporary fare." [3]
A reviewer for The Skeptical Audiophile stated: "If you love hearing INTO a recording, actually being able to 'see' the performers, and feeling as if you are sitting in the studio with Shank, this is the record for you. It's what vintage all analog recordings are known for — this sound." [4]

Michel Jean Legrand was a French musical composer, arranger, conductor, and jazz pianist. Legrand was a prolific composer, having written over 200 film and television scores, in addition to many songs. His scores for two of the films of French New Wave director Jacques Demy, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967), earned Legrand his first Academy Award nominations. Legrand won his first Oscar for the song "The Windmills of Your Mind" from The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), and additional Oscars for Summer of '42 (1971) and Barbra Streisand's Yentl (1983).
Prelude and Sonata is an album by McCoy Tyner released on Key'stone and Milestone label in 1995. It was recorded in November 1994 and features performances of classical and contemporary music by Tyner with alto saxophonist Antonio Hart, tenor saxophonist Joshua Redman, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith. The AllMusic review by Ken Dryden states that "This release is definitely off the beaten path for McCoy Tyner, but it is well worth acquiring".
