Windsor Football Club was an English association football club based in Berkshire. The club was founded in September 1882 as a merger between the Windsor Home Park and Grosvenor clubs. [1]
The club entered the FA Cup three times in the 1880s, its best run coming in its first entry, in 1882-83, reaching the third round. Although the club had been drawn at home to the Clapham Rovers, the tie was played at the St Mark's College ground, probably because Home Park was waterlogged. [2]
The club's final entry in 1884-85 ended in withdrawal, after being drawn away at Chatham, although the club was more successful at local level. Windsor won the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup twice; in 1884 beating South Reading 6-2 [3] after an initial drawn match, [4] and beating the same opponents 2–0 in 1887. [5]
In 1888 Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein was elected as a club member. [6] However, by 1890 the club seems to have been in abeyance, other than as a social concern; playing loyalties had switched to Windsor Phoenix, who would eventually become Windsor & Eton.
The club listed its colours as chocolate and light blue, [7] probably in halves as that was a popular design for the colours.

Frederick John Speller was an English professional footballer who played as a full back. He played for hometown club Great Marlow before signing for Small Heath. He made 93 appearances in the FA Cup, Football Alliance and the Football League for the club in its early days. His career was ended prematurely when he broke his leg in a match against Darwen in 1892, the season when Small Heath won the inaugural Second Division championship. Although he played a couple of league games a year later, he retired from the game in 1894. After a sudden breakdown, he died in an asylum in 1909, when he was remembered as "one of the strongest backs who ever represented the allied counties of Berks and Bucks."

South Reading was an English association football club based in Reading. The club gave its foundation date as 1878 and it first entered the FA Cup in 1882-83. In the first round, the club beat Dreadnought F.C., after the Football Association ordered a replay as South Reading had arrived at the West Ham Park ground too late to complete the game in daylight. South Reading repeated their 2-1 win in a "warmly contested" match. The club received a bye to the third round, where they played Hendon, and took an early lead, but then conceded 11 goals without further reply.
