Wingwood House was a neo-colonial house in Bar Harbor, Maine. [1]
An existing house was expanded in 1927 for Edward T. Stotesbury as a summer "cottage", and was designed by architects Magaziner, Eberhard & Harris. [2] The resulting 80-room mansion had a 30-room servants’ wing and was heated by 56 electric wall heaters, five hot air furnaces, and 26 hand-carved marble fireplaces imported from Europe. The house had 28 bathrooms and 52 telephones with 23 extensions. Stotesbury's wife, Eva Roberts Cromwell Stotesbury, was an active member of society in Bar Harbor. The home was demolished in 1953 to make way for the Canadian National Bluenose ferry terminal. [2] It is now the location of the Marine Atlantic Terminal. [3]

Whitemarsh Hall was a large estate located on 300 acres (1.2 km2) of land in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, US, and owned by banking executive Edward T. Stotesbury and his wife, Eva. Designed by the "Gilded Age" architect Horace Trumbauer, it was built in 1921 and demolished in 1980. Before its destruction, the mansion was the third largest private residence in the United States. Today, it is regarded as one of the great losses in American architectural history.

He was involved in the financing of many railroads. Stotesbury, West Virginia, a coal mining town in Raleigh County, is named for him, as well as his equestrian estate, the Stotesbury Club House. Several of the palatial estates he built with his second wife have been demolished in the years since his death.

The Porcupine Islands are an archipelago of five islands that lie in the Mount Desert Narrows of Frenchman Bay in Bar Harbor, Maine. The Porcupine Islands consist of Sheep Porcupine Island, Burnt Porcupine Island, Rum Key, Long Porcupine Island, and Bald Porcupine Island. Bar Island, which is part of the same geological formation, is occasionally considered a part of the Porcupines as well. All of the islands, except for Burnt Porcupine, are maintained by the National Park Service through Acadia National Park. The islands also serve as nesting grounds for various sea birds, like bald eagles. The islands can be accessed through sea kayaking or through local boat tours out to them.
