North West is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Mahikeng. The province is located to the west of the major population centre of Gauteng and south of Botswana.
Potchefstroom, colloquially known as Potch, is an academic city in the North West Province of South Africa. It hosts the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University. Potchefstroom is on the Mooi Rivier, roughly 120 km (75 mi) west-southwest of Johannesburg and 45 km (28 mi) east-northeast of Klerksdorp.

JB Marks Oval is a Cricket ground in Potchefstroom, North West Province, South Africa. It has hosted two Test matches, with the first in 2002. The Highveld Lions also play some home matches here. It is also home to AFL South Africa, the Australian rules football, body responsible for developing the game in that country and the stadium is home to the South African national Australian rules football team, the Lions. On 29 October 2017, the venue hosted its first T20I match for South Africa against Bangladesh, which was the 100th T20I for South Africa.

The North-West University is a public research university located on three campuses in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark in South Africa. The university came into existence through the merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, which also had a branch in Vanderbijlpark, and the University of North-West in 2004. With its merged status, the North-West University became one of the largest universities in South Africa with the third largest student population in the country.
The 2010 ICC Women's Cricket Challenge was an international women's cricket tournament held in South Africa during the 2010–11 international season. South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Ireland took part in the tournament, held in Potchefstroom from 6 to 16 October 2010. The six teams competed in a series of One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20s (T20Is).

The 2015 Africa T20 Cup was a Twenty20 cricket tournament held in South Africa from 4 September to 4 October 2015, as a curtain-raiser to the 2015–16 South African domestic season. He made his Twenty20 debut for North West in the 2017 Africa T20 Cup on 1 September 2017. He made his first-class debut for North West in the 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup on 2 November 2017.
The 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup was the eighth ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. It was played in Australia from 16 October to 13 November 2022. In the final, England beat Pakistan by five wickets to win their second ICC Men's T20 World Cup title. Sam Curran was named the Player of the match and also the Player of the tournament.
