The Wolaita People's Liberation Movement or Wolaitans Liberation Movement (Wolayttattuwa: Wolayttaawatu La'atettaa Qaattaa), in short WPLM is a political party in Ethiopia founded in 2023. Before its formation the party has been working on a temporary permit from the National Election Board of Ethiopia for three months. The main objective of the movement is to enable the Wolaitans to have their rights respected in various areas of Ethiopia. [1] [2] The party is formed as a national party, and at the time of its formation, the party's members were from the former Southern Region, Oromia, Tigray, Gambella, Afar and Addis Ababa City Administration. The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front was an ethnic federalist political coalition in Ethiopia that existed from 1988 to 2019. It consisted of four political parties: Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), Amhara Democratic Party (ADP), Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) and Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement (SEPDM). After leading the overthrow of the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it dominated Ethiopian politics from 1991 to 2019. In November 2019, the EPRDF was dissolved, and Prime Minister and EPDRF chairman Abiy Ahmed merged three of the constituent parties into his new Prosperity Party, which was officially founded on 1 December 2019.
The Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region was a regional state in southwestern Ethiopia. It was formed from the merger of five kililoch, called Regions 7 to 11, following the regional council elections on 21 June 1992. Its government was based in Hawassa.

Sodo or officially Wolaita Sodo is a city in south Ethiopia. The City is a political and administrative center of the Wolaita Zone and South Ethiopia Regional State. It has a latitude and longitude of 6°54′N37°45′E with an elevation between 1,600 and 2,100 metres above sea level. The Southern Ethiopia People's Democratic Coalition is an opposition political coalition in Ethiopia based in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region. At the last legislative elections held on 15 May 2005, the Coalition was part of the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces that won 52 out of 527 seats in the Council of People's Representatives (CPR).

Medrek, officially the Ethiopia Federal Democratic Unity Forum, is an Ethiopian political coalition founded in 2008 by former defense minister Siye Abraha and former president Negasso Gidada. The election symbol of the party is five fingers. On 2008 election, Medrek won a single seat in the House of Peoples' Representatives, representing an electoral district in Addis Ababa. This was allegedly due to lack of election transparency. Medrek won 30% of the individual vote nationwide but received only one seat in parliament since Ethiopia's elections are conducted under a single-member plurality voting system.
Wolayita or Wolaita is an administrative zone in Ethiopia. Wolayita is bordered on the south by Gamo Zone, on the west by the Omo River which separates it from Dawro, on the northwest by Kembata Zone and Tembaro Special Woreda, on the north by Hadiya, on the northeast by the Oromia Region, on the east by the Bilate River which separates it from Sidama Region, and on the south east by the Lake Abaya which separates it from Oromia Region. The administrative centre of Wolayita is Sodo. Other major towns are Areka, Boditi, Tebela, Bale Hawassa, Gesuba, Gununo, Bedessa and Dimtu.
The Union of Ethiopian Marxist–Leninist Organizations, known by its Amharic acronym Imaledih or Emaledh, was a coalition of communist organizations in Ethiopia active between 1977 and 1979. Imaledih was intended as a pre-party formation, Imaledih was supposed function as the nucleus of new proletarian party. Through Imaledih, the constituent parties of the coalition would merge. The formation of Imaledih was actively supported by the ruling Derg military junta.

Wolaita Tussa Sports Club, also known as Wolaita Tussa, is a professional football club based in Wolaita Sodo, Ethiopia. The club was founded in 1988 by known pop of catholic missioner Gino Benanti. After its formation the club was well known and popular in southern region. They were a member of the Ethiopian Football Federation and now participating in Ethiopia U-20 Premier league. But latter on after playing the first round Wolaita Zone Youth and Sport department declared that Wolaita Tussa would not continue the second round because of budget deficit.
Wolaita Sodo City Sport Club or in short Sodo City Sport Club is an Ethiopian football club based in Wolaita Sodo.Sodo City S.C. was officially established in 2011. The club is a member of the Ethiopian Football Federation and plays in the Ethiopian Higher League, the second order professional football competition in Ethiopia. Sodo City S.C. is one of the leading clubs in Wolayita Zone, which is known for recruiting young football players.
The fall of the Derg, also known as Downfall of the Derg, was a military campaign that resulted in the defeat of the ruling Marxist–Leninist military junta, the Derg, by the rebel coalition Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) on 28 May 1991 in Addis Ababa, ending the Ethiopian Civil War. The Derg took power after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie and the Solomonic dynasty, an imperial dynasty of Ethiopia that began in 1270. The Derg suffered from insurgency with different factions, and separatist rebel groups since their early rule, beginning with the Ethiopian Civil War. The 1983–1985 famine, the Red Terror, and resettlement and villagization made the Derg unpopular with the majority of Ethiopians tending to support insurgent groups like the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF).
Endrias Geta Baldada is an Ethiopian politician serving as State Minister of Ministry of Irrigation and Lowland and Areas. Endrias is from the Wolaita people and he served as chief administrator of Wolayita Zone after SNNPR Prosperity Party ousted Dagato Kumbe from his position in August 2020.
