The Women Transforming India awards are an annual contest supported by the United Nations in India, Indian government website MyGov, and NITI Aayog (the National Institution for Transforming India). They honour "exceptional women entrepreneurs, who are breaking the glass ceiling and challenging stereotypes". [1]
The first awards were given in 2016. It was announced that a shortlist of 10 names would be put to public vote on MyGov to produce three winners, [2] but in fact out of nearly 1,000 entries a short list of 25 were put on MyGov for a poll which produced 12 winners, split into six winners and six runners-up. [3] [4]
In 2017, 12 winners were selected from about 3,000 entrants, [5] and in 2018 15 winners were selected from over 2,500 entries. [1]
Arvind Panagariya is an Indian economist who is holding the position of Jagdish Bhagwati Professor of Indian Political Economy at Columbia University and the Director of Deepak and Neera Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies at School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York City. He served as first vice-chairman of the government of India think-tank NITI Aayog between January 2015 and August 2017. He has been appointed as the chairman of 16th Finance Commission by the government of India. He is a former Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India in 2012 for his contributions in the field of economics and Public Policy.
Saundarya Rajesh is an Indian entrepreneur who is the founder and president of Avtar Group. She is known for her efforts in promoting second career opportunities for women in the corporate sector in India. She runs Project Puthri, an initiative to empower underprivileged girls to secure employment. She was awarded the ‘100 Women Achievers of India’ in 2016 by the Minister of Women and Child Development for her work. She received the Women Transforming India Award from the NITI Aayog and the United Nations in 2016.

He is a retired member of the 1980 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) batch, the central civil service of the Government of India.
First Pinarayi Vijayan ministry is the Council of Ministers headed by Pinarayi Vijayan that was formed after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) won the 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections. Muskan Ahirwar is an Indian educator and librarian from Bhopal, India. In 2016, when she was 9 years old, she created a community library for children in the worker's colony where she lives, named Kitabi Masti in Hindi. The library has since moved to a dedicated space and has been expanded to over 3,000 books. She has been given several awards for her work including by NITI Aayog, Hyderabad Literature Festival, and the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
