The World Sports Encyclopedia is a reference book of articles covering sports and sporting games throughout the world.

Contents

Origins

The book was spearheaded by Polish professor Wojciech Liponski with a team of co-authors, editors, and contributors worldwide. The encyclopedia was originally written in Polish and published as Encyklopedia sportów świata by Atena Publishing House in 2001. [1]

UNESCO support

Having received the support of UNESCO's Unit of Education, it was translated into English (World Sports Encyclopedia, 2003, Atena, MBI Books) [2] and French (Encyclopedie des sports, 2005, Grund). The book features entries on more than 3,000 sports and sporting games from all over the world, including Olympic and international sports, traditional and indigenous sports and games, historical and extinct sports, regional sports, extreme sports, martial arts, school and children's sports and games. The book presents action photos, as well as works of sport art, prints, posters and original illustrations.

<i>Sztuka i Naród</i>

Sztuka i Naród was a Polish monthly published covertly in Warsaw, occupied Poland during World War II. It was supported by the resistance group Konfederacja Narodu. It was published from April 1942 to Warsaw Uprising in August 1944. 16 issues were published. It was the only Polish underground publication, dedicated to cultural matters, that was regularly published for such a long period of time.

The 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship was held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. In addition to the host nation Poland, 23 teams qualified for the tournament by means of continental and regional competitions. The matches took place in seven venues across seven Polish cities, with the final being held at Spodek, Katowice.

The 2010 FIM Individual Ice Racing World Championship was the 2010 version of FIM Individual Ice Racing World Championship season. The world champion was determined in nine finals in five cities between 6 February and 21 March 2010. The championship title was won by the defending champion Nikolay Krasnikov, who won seven of nine events. It was his sixth world champion title. The silver medal was won by Daniil Ivanov, who won the other two events. Dmitry Khomitsevich was third. The top five placing riders were from Russia. The first not-Russian rider was Franz Zorn from Austria.

The 2011 Team Long Track World Championship was the fifth annual FIM Team Long Track World Championship. The final took place on 21 August 2011 in Scheeßel, Germany. The Championship was won by the defending champion Germany who beat the Netherlands and Great Britain. It was fifth champion title for German riders.

Wojciech Antoni Waglewski is a Polish musician; singer, guitarist, composer, arranger and producer, a member of Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry and Polish Film Academy. "Koniec świata o ósmej" is an early (1947) science fiction novelette by Polish writer Stanisław Lem. Professor Farragus claims that he discovered a "matter detonator" substance, which, when heated, starts a chain reaction causing the destruction of all matter. Irritated by a non-recognition of his fundamental discovery, and mockery, he decides to prove he is right by destroying the Universe.
