Xavier Le Roy is a French-German artist known for his work in contemporary dance and choreography. He was born 1963 in Juvisy-sur-Orge, [1] [2] France.
Xavier Le Roy holds a doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Montpellier in France. [3]
He transitioned from science to dance. [4] [5] This way, he started his career as an artist in 1991. Since 2018, he has worked as a professor at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen, Germany. [6] Since 1 October 2023, Prof. Le Roy has held the position of managing director of the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies. [3]
His works include the solo "Le Sacre du Printemps" (2007), "Untitled" (2014), the group piece "low pieces" (2011), and exhibition works such as "Production" (2011) with Mårten Spångberg, "Untitled" (2012) for the exhibition 12 Rooms, "Retrospective" (2012) at Tapiès Foundation-Barcelona, "Temporary Title, 2015" in Sydney for John Kaldor Public Art Project, and "For The Unfaithful Replica" (2016) with Scarlet Yu at CA2M Madrid. In 2017, he collaborated with Ensemble Issho Ni for the exhibition "Haben Sie 'Modern' gesagt?" for Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and, with Scarlet Yu, developed "Still Untitled," a public space work commissioned by Skulptur Projekte Münster 2017. Choreography is the art or practice of designing sequences of movements of physical bodies in which motion or form or both are specified. Choreography may also refer to the design itself. A choreographer is one who creates choreographies by practising the art of choreography, a process known as choreographing. It most commonly refers to dance choreography.

The Ice Theatre of New York is a professional ensemble company dancing on ice, performing works by choreographers drawn from competitive figure skating and modern and contemporary dance. The Institute for Applied Theatre Studies is part of the Justus Liebig University Gießen. It offers three different degree programs: a three-year Bachelor's program, Applied Theatre Studies, and two two-year Master's programs, Applied Theatre Studies and Choreography and Performance (CuP). Each course places equal importance on academic and artistic practice. In seminars, reading courses and tutorials, students asked to engage with theoretical issues, while in performance projects, practical courses and workshops they experiment with different artistic approaches. Courses in the humanities and cultural studies offered by the university are also incorporated into each program. In choreography and performance, certain practical classes are organized in cooperation with the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, where these classes will also be held.
