Xiomara Acevedo is a Colombian climate change activist. As founder and CEO of the NGO Barranquilla +20, she has argued for the inclusion of women and young people's voices in climate justice.

Career

Acevedo founded Barranquilla +20 in 2012, and as of 2022, serves as the CEO. [1] [2] Barranquilla +20 is a youth-led non-governmental organization focused on climate activism and environmentalism in Barranquilla and throughout Latin America. [3] [4]

Acevedo co-founded the network "El Orinoco se adapta" (Orinoco adapts), which uses a gender-based approach toward addressing and adapting to climate change in the Orinoquía natural region, around 2014. [2] [5]

In 2015, Acevedo worked for the World Wide Fund for Nature in Paraguay. [6]

From 2016 to 2019, Acevedo worked as a climate change expert for the government of Nariño, Colombia, coordinating climate change policy. [6] [7]

In 2021, Acevedo attended the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), as part of the Women and Gender Constituency. [8] She advocated for the importance of women's rights in achieving climate justice. [8]

Acevedo directs the Women for Climate Justice project (a project of Barranquilla +20), a 2021 initiative that emphasizes the climate leadership of young women from across Colombia. [1] [9] [10] Barranquilla +20 was awarded $50,000 for the project by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2021. [1] [11] [12]

Acevedo serves on the steering committee of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network [1] [13] and the Youth Fund Committee of the Global Youth Climate Action Fund. [14]

Acevedo is a graduate of Universidad del Norte, Colombia, from which she took a degree in international relations, with a focus on international law. [11] [13] Acevedo attended the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, where she studied climate finance. [1]

A civil engineer and member of the Radical Change Party, he was councilor for the Liberal Party in 1997 and in 2000 ran for the Governorship of the Department of Atlántico. Initial ballot results gave victory to his contender Ventura Díaz Mejía, but after a lengthy and often criticized process, the Administrative Supreme Court of Colombia reviewed the election results and found Char to be rightful winner of the race and allowed him to serve the remaining period of his term in 2003.

Further to this her career has seen longevity and cultural reach that has enabled Shakira to be a socially, culturally, and politically influential figure across the world. This has culminated in her receiving the honorific nickname of the Queen of Latin Music. Is considered the most recognisable face of Latin music around the world. With 95 millions of records sold, she is the best-selling Latin female artist of all time. According to Forbes, in 2018 Shakira was the most commercially successful woman in Latin music through her album sales, thus making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Vogue writer Carla Ramirez referred to Shakira as the greatest Latin female icon in history and journalist Queralt Uceda from La Vanguardia credits Shakira for being largely responsible for the populatity of Spanish language music on a global level, while others credit her for being the pioneer, popularising Spanish music and paving way for other artists such as Bad Bunny and Karol G who enjoy worldwide popularity today. The 2022 Categoría Primera A season was the 75th season of the Categoría Primera A, Colombia's top-flight football league. The season began on 20 January and ended on 7 December 2022. Deportivo Cali were the defending champions, having won the 2021 Finalización tournament.

Jaime Alberto Pumarejo Heins is a Colombian information systems administrator and politician, and since 2020 mayor of the Special Industrial and Port District of Barranquilla, the main economic center of the Caribbean region of Colombia and the fourth most populous city in the country.

Efraín Villanueva is a Colombian author. He has published the books Tomacorrientes Inalámbricos, Guía para buscar lo que no has perdido and Adentro, todo. Afuera… nada.
