Y Stiwdio Gefn (meaning The Back Studio) was a Welsh language music programme, broadcast regularly on S4C between 2013 and 2016. The programme was presented by Lisa Gwilym. [1] Y Stiwdio Gefn showcased Welsh language music, covering a variety of music genres, [2] [3] usually with a small number of bands or singers sharing the studio and taking turns to perform during a half hour broadcast.

New series continued to be produced on a regular basis, [3] [4] as well as the occasional special edition such as in August 2014 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Welsh language rock opera, Nia Ben Aur , [5] and a December 2015 broadcast performing music written by Alun 'Sbardun' Huws. HinterlandY Gwyll in the original Welsh language version — is a Welsh noir police procedural series broadcast on S4C in Welsh. The main character, DCI Tom Mathias, is played by Richard Harrington. On 27 November 2013, a second series was announced by S4C. The English-language version, with brief passages of Welsh dialogue, aired on BBC One Wales. When it was shown on the BBC in 2014, it was the first BBC television drama with dialogue in both English and Welsh. A third series of the show began filming in January 2016 and debuted on S4C on 30 October.

This is a timeline of the history of S4C, originally the fourth-oldest terrestrial television channel in Wales. Until 2010 it carried a mixture of Welsh language programmes and programmes from Channel 4 which was not broadcast on analogue TV in Wales. In 2010, Channel 4 became available in Wales on all platforms and S4C became a Welsh-language-only channel.
