Yabucoa is a municipality in Puerto Rico located in the eastern region, north of Maunabo; south of San Lorenzo, Las Piedras and Humacao; and east of Patillas. Yabucoa is spread over 9 barrios and Yabucoa barrio-pueblo. It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Puerto Rico national football team represents Puerto Rico in men's international football, and are governed by the Federación Puertorriqueña de Fútbol (FPF). The team's nickname is El Huracán Azul meaning The Blue Hurricane. They are members of the Caribbean Football Union, and part of CONCACAF. The team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup or the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Puerto Rican Football Federation is the governing body of association football in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1940 and became affiliated to FIFA in 1960, one of the last to do so in the Western Hemisphere. It governs over all football on the island, including the Puerto Rico national football team, the amateur Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Puerto Rico, the scheduled Liga Profesional de Fútbol de Puerto Rico, as well as the Puerto Rico FC who playED in the North American Soccer League.

Puerto Rico Highway 3(PR-3) at nearly 100 miles long, is the second longest highway on Puerto Rico. It connects the San Juan neighborhood of Río Piedras to downtown Salinas indirectly around the eastern coast of the island. Highway 3 ranges from a three lane urban avenue in San Juan to a one lane rural road past Fajardo. While other roads connect San Juan, it runs the coastline of Puerto Rico east of San Juan, beginning in Río Piedras near Santurce and goes to Fajardo where it goes south paralleling the coastline to Humacao and Maunabo. It goes up to a mountain-scenic route and goes west to Salinas, where it meets PR-1.
Puerto Rico Highway 53 or PR-53 is a main tollway that is parallel to Puerto Rico Highway 3, which goes from Fajardo to Salinas. Some segments are still in planning, but when finished it will be about 58 miles (93 km) in length. Two tunnels, about 0.6 mi (1 km) long each, in the towns of Yabucoa and Maunabo were completed in October 2008. It will connect the cities of Fajardo, Ceiba, Naguabo, Humacao, Yabucoa, Maunabo, Patillas, Arroyo, Guayama and Salinas, thus bordering the entire eastern and southeastern coasts of Puerto Rico. Its northern terminus is at PR-3 and PR-194 in Fajardo, and its south terminus is at PR-52 in Salinas.

Puerto Rico Highway 182 (PR-182) is a primary road located entirely within the municipality of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. The road has its northern terminus at its intersection with Puerto Rico Highway 181 in the northwestern end of the town, near San Lorenzo, and its southern terminus in downtown Yabucoa, near PR-9910 and PR-3, where it provides access to many municipal government offices. PR-182 provides an alternate route to PR-181 to reach San Lorenzo from Yabucoa. The latter road continues south-southwest to Patillas.

Ramón Luis Cruz Burgos is a Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). Cruz Burgos studied in Manuel Ortiz Elementary School and attended Luis Muñoz-Marín High School in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. He studied applied physics at the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao. He represented Puerto Rico in several national competitions at NASA, including three times in the Great Moonbuggy Race.

Dead Dog Beach, also known as Sato Beach and officially named Playa Lucia, is a beach within the municipality of Yabucoa in southeastern Puerto Rico. Its "Dead Dog Beach" came because it was the dumping ground for stray animals, mainly dogs that the inhabitants of Yabucoa could no longer afford. Most dumped animals were not spayed or neutered.
The 1990 Junior League World Series took place from August 13–18 in Taylor, Michigan, United States. Yabucoa, Puerto Rico defeated San Antonio, Texas in the championship game. It was Puerto Rico's second straight championship.
