Yakubu Mohammed (alias: Yakubu Usman Shehu Abubakar El-Nafati [4] ) (born 25 March 1973) is a Nigerian actor, producer, director, singer and script writer. He is a Globacom ambassador, [5] SDGs ambassador and at a time, an ambassador for Nescafe Beverage.[ citation needed ] He has sung over 1000 songs, featured in over 100 Hausa films and more than 40 English films some of which includes; Lionheart, 4th Republic, Sons of the Caliphate and MTV Shuga which earned him City People Entertainment Awards [6] and Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Career

Yakubu Mohammed started off in Kannywood as at 1998 writing scripts and working behind the scene. Along the line, he got trained on the job whilst rising through the ranks and files and in no time found himself calling the shots. Yakubu as a music artist has recorded over 1000 songs for film music and albums in Hausa and English. After working from the background for so long he got his first movie gig in Gabar Cikin Gida [7] in 2013 [8] where he got featured alongside his friend and partner Sani Musa Danja. He made a cross over to Nollywood in 2016 with a debut in Sons of the Caliphate together with his colleague Rahama Sadau [9] and also got featured in MTV's Shuga and Lionheart. [10]

Blood and Henna is a 2012 Nigerian film directed by Kenneth Gyang, starring Ali Nuhu, Sadiq Sani Sadiq and Nafisat Abdullahi. The film tries to narrate the ordeal of the 1996 Pfizer Clinical Test in Kano, Nigeria. It received 6 nominations at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards, and eventually won only the award for Best Costume Design.

Sons of the Caliphate is a Nigerian political thriller drama television series created and produced by Dimbo Atiya, directed by Kenneth Gyang and executive produced by Mo Abudu of the Ebonylife TV. It originally aired on Ebonylife TV for two season from 13 October 2016 to 6 February 2018. Season two had a global airing exclusively on Netflix.

The season primarily focus on educating especially young people on Sex Education, Family Planning, Contraception, HIV prevention among others. MTV Shuga is produced by produced by award-winning writer/filmmaker Chris Ihidero, and Emma Uduma of SMAT Media.
