Yentl en de Boer is a Dutch cabaret and musical duo, consisting of Yentl Schieman and Christine de Boer. The duo received two Annie M.G. Schmidt Awards, awarded to the best theatrical song of the year: In 2014 for their song Ik heb een man gekend (I knew this guy) and in 2020 for Het is begonnen (It has begun). [1] [2] Earlier on in their career Yentl en de Boer were awarded with the Wim Sonneveld Award and the Audience Award during the Amsterdam Cabaret Festival 2013 (Amsterdams Kleinkunst Festival 2013). [3] Yentl en de Boer are praised for their harmonious vocals and witty lyrics.

Anna Maria Geertruida "Annie" Schmidt was a Dutch writer. She is called the mother of the Dutch theatrical song, and the queen of Dutch children's literature, praised for her "delicious Dutch idiom," and considered one of the greatest Dutch writers. An ultimate honour was extended to her posthumously, in 2007, when a group of Dutch historians compiled the "Canon of the Netherlands" and included Schmidt, alongside national icons such as Vincent van Gogh and Anne Frank.

Kees Brusse was a Dutch actor, film director and screenwriter. "Ik zou je het liefste in een doosje willen doen" is a 1959 Dutch song written by Annie M.G. Schmidt (lyrics) and Cor Lemaire (music) for the 1950s television show Pension Hommeles. The song describes a man who loves his partner so much that he would like to keep her in a little box. Sung by Donald Jones, it was a hit and helped propel Jones to stardom. The song remains a standard in Dutch cabaret and musical comedy.

In the Netherlands, the Vlag en Wimpel award is an honourable mention awarded by either the jury of the Gouden Griffel and Zilveren Griffel awards or the jury of the Gouden Penseel and Zilveren Penseel awards. The award is organised by the Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek. Starting in 2022, instead of Flags and Pennants, Bronze Griffels and Bronze Brushes will be awarded. The name change is intended to underscore the purpose of these awards: to highlight the best children's books.
