Christopher Omenye, professionally known as Yung L (pronounced Young L), is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer.

Early life

Yung L was born and raised in Jos, Plateau state. His mother greatly influenced his decision to become a musician, first by introducing him to the church drummer, and later, to the church pianist (Meca-E of Square Records). [1] They both taught him the rudimentary aspects of music and how to play certain instruments. He soon began playing the drums in church, and Secondary School.

A graduate of the University of Jos, Omenye started singing, rapping, and performing at social events and joined a music group known as Mac9. They performed songs by some of Yung L’s musical influences such as Damian Marley and Jay-Z. [2]

Music career

While attending the University of Jos Medical School, Yung L met other budding musicians, such as Ice Prince (formerly), [3] Endia, J.Milla, and Chopstix the producer. Together, they formed the GRIP movement, with Yung L acting as president of the Grip Music label. Grip music comprises individual artists Yung L, Endia, Jmilla, and chopstix, who are collectively known as the Grip Boiz- in the manner of the Choc Boys and WuTang Clan. In 2011, they moved to Lagos to pursue their music careers full-time.

Prior to signing his record deal with Chocolatecity Music, [4] Yung L [5] performed and released music as an independent artist. During this period, he released singles like Pass The Aux, [6] SOS [7] which was nominated for MTV’s Music Video of the Year Award [8] In 2017, Yung L, Skales and producer Chopstix were featured by Major Lazer on the remix of "Run Up" [9] which also features Nicki Minaj and PartyNextDoor, this gained him more international recognition.

With Chocolate City Music, he released singles and an album titled 'Better Late Than Never'. [10] The album features the Ghanaian artist Sarkodie and others.

His debut studio album, Talk About It, was introduced in 2008, followed by MI 2: The Movie in 2010. Subsequently, he unveiled his third studio album, The Chairman, four years later. Additionally, Abaga released the playlist Rendezvous in February 2018, followed by A Study On Self Worth: Yxng Dxnzl, in August of the same year. He released "The Guy" album in 2022.

Panshak Henry Zamani better known as Ice Prince Zamani or just Ice Prince, is a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after releasing "Oleku", one of Nigeria's most remixed songs of all time. He won the 2009 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour. His debut studio album Everybody Loves Ice Prince was released in 2011. It was supported by three singles: "Oleku", "Superstar" and "Juju". In 2013, Ice Prince released Fire of Zamani as his second studio album. The album contained the singles "Aboki", "More", "Gimme Dat" and "I Swear". On 1 July 2015, Ice Prince was announced as the vice president of Chocolate City. He held the position until he left the label in 2016. He has collaborated with top African rappers like Navio of Uganda, Khaligraph Jones of Kenya, AKA of South Africa, Sarkodie of Ghana among others.

Jesse Garba Abaga, known professionally as Jesse Jagz, is a Nigerian rapper, record producer, singer and songwriter. He signed a record deal with Chocolate City in 2010 and released his debut studio album Jag of All Tradez that same year. He voluntarily exited the Chocolate City deal in 2013 and announced the launch of his independent label, Jagz Nation. Jagz released his second studio album Jagz Nation, Vol.1. Thy Nation Come in 2013; it included singles such as "Redemption", "Bad Girl", "Sex & Scotch" and "God on the Mic". His third studio album, Jagz Nation Vol. 2: Royal Niger Company, was released in 2014. He returned to Chocolate City in 2015 but left the label again prior to releasing his fourth studio album Odysseus in 2017. In May 2020, he released a 5-track EP titled Garba.

Everybody Loves Ice Prince is the debut studio album by Nigerian rapper Ice Prince. It was released by Chocolate City on October 9, 2011. The album's production was primarily handled by Jesse Jagz, along with additional production from M.I Abaga, Wizboyy, E Kelly, Samklef and Chopstix. It features collaborations with Brymo, Wizkid, 2 Face Idibia, Jesse Jagz, M.I, Yung L, J-Milla, Samklef, Wizboyy, Morell and Sean Tero. The album was supported by the singles "Oleku", "Superstar" and "Juju". E.L.I is a mixture of hip hop, R&B, dancehall, raga, Afrobeats, reggae, highlife and soul.

The discography of Wizkid, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, consists of five studio albums, two EPs, fifty-three singles, forty-four promotional singles, sixteen guest appearances, six cameo appearances and thirty-five music videos. Wizkid started his music career at age 11, releasing a seven-track collaborative album with Glorious Five entitled Lil Prinz. Fire of Zamani is the second studio album by Nigerian hip hop recording artist Ice Prince. It was released by Chocolate City on October 28, 2013. The album was executively produced by Audu Maikori, Paul Okeugo, Yahaya Maikori, and Jude Abaga. It was mastered by Sean Stan of Vintage Sounds Production. The album's production was primarily handled by Chopstix, a member of Grip Boiz City, along with additional production from Don Jazzy, Jay Sleek, Sammy Gyang, and E-Kelly. It features guest appearances from Sunny Neji, Wale, M.I, Chip, Ruby Gyang, Wizkid, French Montana, Jesse Jagz, Olamide, Sound Sultan, Burna Boy, Yung L, Jeremiah Gyang, Shaydee, and Morell. The album was supported by four singles—"Aboki", "More", "Gimme Dat", and "I Swear". It was marketed to East Africans by the distribution platform Mdundo.

"Aboki" is a song by Nigerian rapper Ice Prince. It was released on 28 August 2012, serving as the lead single from his second studio album, Fire of Zamani (2013). The song was produced by Chopstix and released along with "More". It peaked at number 92 on Afribiz's Top 100 chart.

It peaked at 26 on Afribiz's Top 100 chart. "V.I.P" debuted at number 9 on MTV Base's Official Naija Top 10 chart from July 6 through July 13, 2013. It entered the music countdown alongside "Personally".
