Yvonne Galligan OBE is an Irish political scientist and consultant who is currently teaching at Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Trinity College Dublin. [1]

Galligan is a Professor of Comparative Politics, [2] Founding Director of the Centre for Advancement of Women in Politics [3] and Director of University Gender Initiative [4] at Queen’s University.

Galligan has published on gender equality issues in public life, writing texts such as Contesting Politics: Women in Ireland, North and South. [5] Galligan has served as an advisor to political parties, governments, parliaments, universities and international bodies on measures to gender balance political representation.

In Ireland, Galligan's research in 2012 created the foundations for the introduction of the 2012 Electoral Funding (Political Parties) Act, which allowed for candidate gender quotas.

In the United Kingdom, Galligan served in 2013 as a member of the Commission on the consequences of devolution for the House of Commons (the McKay Commission). [6] Galligan was also independent chairperson of the Markievicz Commission in Ireland on measures to implement the candidate gender quota of 30%, in 2014. [7]

Galligan was awarded an OBE in the Birthday 2014 Honours List for services to Higher Education. [8] In 2015, she received an Honorary Fellowship from Trinity College Dublin. In 2017, Galligan was honored with an honorary doctorate by the University of Edinburgh. [9] [10] [1] for her outstanding work in equality and diversity, which was awarded alongside Justin Trudeau.

Queen's Students' Union (QSU) is the official representative body for students at Queen's University Belfast. Membership of the union is automatic and currently totals 24,560, making it one of the largest unions on the island of Ireland and in the United Kingdom. The Students' Union derives its existence and authority from the University's Statutes, and so is not entirely independent of it. Therefore, it must have amendments to its constitution approved by the University Senate. It aims to represent students' interests both with the university and the wider community, to create a sense of student spirit and provide services that aid its student members during their time at Queen's. The Students' Union can trace its origins to the nineteenth century, and has been based on University Road, directly opposite the University's main 'Lanyon Building', since it opened in 1967.

Professor Christopher George Maccabe CB is a former Political Director of the Northern Ireland Office, and a former British Joint Secretary of the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference. Since 2006 he has been involved in conflict resolution and political development in various parts of the world, including Sri Lanka, Kosovo, the Middle East, Tanzania, Iraq, Lebanon, Cameroon and Colombia. He is a member of a team appointed by the Minister of Justice in Northern Ireland to oversee the August 2010 agreement between the Minister and dissident republican prisoners in Maghaberry Prison. He was educated at Brackenber House School, the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Queen's University Belfast and the University of London. He is the son of Max and Gladys Maccabe MBE, a renowned Irish artist. He is married to Jenny and has three children and nine grandchildren.

James Charles McElnay OBE FCCP FRPharmS is the current Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise and Postgraduate Affairs and the Acting President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast. He was elected as acting Vice-Chancellor at a meeting of the standing committee of the university following the death of President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Patrick Johnston.
