Yvonne O'Byrne (born 2 January 1992) is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. She plays for Cork Harlequins in the Women's Irish Hockey League and has also played for Cork Institute of Technology at intervarsity level.
O'Byrne is the daughter of Pat O'Byrne. She has two brothers, Niall and Lorcan. She was raised in the Model Farm Road and Bishopstown districts of Cork. She was educated at St Catherine's N.S., Mount Mercy College, Cork and the Cork Institute of Technology. In addition to playing field hockey, in her youth O'Byrne also played association football with Wilton United. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
O'Byrne began playing field hockey while attending Mount Mercy College, Cork. In 2006, aged just 14 and while still a second year student, O'Byrne was the youngest member of the Mount Mercy team that won the Munster Senior Schools Cup and the Kate Russell All-Ireland Schoolgirls Championships. O'Byrne captained the Mount Mercy team in 2010. [2] [3] [5] [7] [8] [9] O'Byrne would later return to Mount Mercy to coach the field hockey team. [3]
Between 2006 and 2013 O'Byrne represented and captained Munster at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-21 levels. She played with the Munster senior team in 2011 when they won the Senior Interprovincial tournament. She was named Munster Under-18 Player of the Year in 2010 and Munster Under-21 Player of the Year in 2012. [2] [3] [5] [7] [8]
In 2008 O'Byrne began playing for Cork Harlequins. She was encouraged to play for the club by Cliodhna Sargent, an Ireland women's field hockey international and former Mount Mercy student. At the time Sargent was playing for Harlequins and coaching Mount Mercy. [2] [5] O'Byrne began captaining the team aged just 19. [3] She subsequently helped Cork Harlequins win the Munster Senior League Division 1 titles in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013. She also helped the club finish as runners up in the 2009–10 Women's Irish Hockey League. [2] [8] [9] [10] In the 2016–17 season she was captain of the Cork Harlequins team that played in the Irish Senior Cup final. Other members of the team included Roisin Upton and Naomi Carroll. [11] [12] [13] She was again captain when Harlequins finished as runners up in both the Women's Irish Hockey League and the EY Champions Trophy in 2017–18. [11] [14] [15] [16]
O'Byrne has been a bursary student at Cork Institute of Technology since 2010. She completed a Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Leisure in May 2013. She than began an Honours Business degree in Sport and Exercise. [2] [8] [9] In August 2018, she was completing a research PhD in health promotion intervention in primary schools. [6] She has captained the CIT ladies field hockey team in the intervarsity tournament, the Chilean Cup. In 2012 she captained CIT as they won the Chilean Plate. [2] [8] [17] [18]
O'Byrne represented Ireland at Under-18, Under-21 and Ireland A level before making her senior debut [2] [8] against Spain in January 2014. [2] [4] [7] O'Byrne was a member of the Ireland team that won the 2015 Women's EuroHockey Championship II, defeating the Czech Republic 5–0 in the final. [19] In January 2017 she was also a member of the Ireland team that won a 2016–17 Women's FIH Hockey World League Round 2 tournament in Kuala Lumpur, defeating Malaysia 3–0 in the final. [20]
O'Byrne represented Ireland at the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup and was a prominent member of the team that won the silver medal. [6] [21] [22] [23] [24] She featured in all of Ireland's games throughout the tournament, including the pool games against the United States, [25] India, [26] and England, [27] [28] the quarter-final against India, [29] the semi-final against Spain [30] and the final against the Netherlands. Mary Goode is a former Ireland women's field hockey international. She has also played senior club field hockey for Pembroke Wanderers and Hermes.
Elena Joy Neill, also referred to as Lena Tice, is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Tice is also an Ireland women's cricket international. She was a dual Ireland women's cricket and field hockey international by the age of 17. In 2011, she made her senior international cricket debut, aged just 13 years and 272 days. As a result, after Pakistan's Sajjida Shah, Tice became the second youngest player in the history of cricket, male or female, to make their international debut playing in an official One Day International or Twenty20 International. She also represented Ireland at the 2014 ICC Women's World Twenty20. Tice has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with UCD Ladies' Hockey Club.
Nikki Symmons is a former Ireland women's field hockey international. Symmons is also a former Ireland women's cricket international. Between 2001 and 2013 Symmons made 208 appearances and scored 31 goals for Ireland. She represented Ireland at six Women's EuroHockey Nations Championships, during three Olympic qualification campaigns and during three Women's Hockey World Cup qualification campaigns. Symmons played in four Irish Senior Cup finals for Loreto. In 2008–09 she was also a member of the Loreto team that won the inaugural Women's Irish Hockey League title. In 2011 she was a member of the Loreto team that won the EuroHockey Club Champion's Challenge II. In 2015 she was inducted into the European Hockey Federation Hall of Fame. Since 2014 Symmons has worked in Lausanne as a Digital Manager for the International Hockey Federation.
David Harte is an Ireland men's field hockey international. He captained Ireland at both the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup. He was also a member of the Ireland team that won the bronze medal at the 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship. At club level, he was a member of the SV Kampong team that won the 2015–16 Euro Hockey League. Harte has won national league titles in Ireland, the Netherlands and Malaysia and has played in the Hockey India League. In both 2015 and 2016 he was named the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year. Harte's twin brother, Conor, and his sister, Emer, are also Ireland field hockey internationals. The Harte brothers have lined out together with eight different field hockey teams – Bandon Grammar School, Cork Harlequins, Pembroke Wanderers, DCU, SCHC, Dabang Mumbai, Munster and Ireland.
UCD Ladies' Hockey Club is a women's field hockey club in Dublin, Ireland, operating within University College Dublin. In addition to playing in Colours matches with Dublin University and competing in intervarsity tournaments, the club also enter teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup. During the 2010s UCD has emerged as one Ireland's strongest teams in women's field hockey, winning three Irish Hockey League titles and four Irish Senior Cups. UCD has also represented Ireland in the 2015 and 2018 EuroHockey Club Champions Cups.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Holden is a retired Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Colvin has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with Loreto.
Nicola Daly, also referred to as Nicci Daly or Nikki Daly, is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. In 2010 Daly was a member of the Loreto team that won the Irish Senior Cup. Daly has also played senior ladies' Gaelic football for Dublin. Since 2016 Daly has worked in motorsport as a data engineer for Juncos Racing.
Nicola Evans, also referred to as Nikki Evans, is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Evans has also won Women's Irish Hockey League titles with Railway Union, UCD and Hermes-Monkstown. In the 2013–14 Evans was a member the UCD team that completed a national double, winning both the league and the Irish Senior Cup.
Hannah Matthews is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Matthews has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with Loreto. She is the daughter of Phillip Matthews, the former Ireland rugby union international.
Zoe Wilson is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. She was also a member of the Syracuse Orange field hockey team that won the 2015 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. This was the first time a Syracuse Orange women's team won a national championship.
Deirdre Duke is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Duke has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with UCD. She has also captained the UCD team. Duke also won an All-Ireland Under-14 Ladies' Football Championship with Dublin and represented the Republic of Ireland women's national under-17 football team.
Alison Meeke, also referred to as Ali Meeke, is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Meeke has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with Loreto.
Emily Beatty is an Ireland women's field hockey international. She was a member of the Ireland team that played in the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final. Beatty has also won Irish Senior Cup and Women's Irish Hockey League titles with UCD.
Naomi Carroll is an Irish Olympian and Ireland women's field hockey international. In 2015–16 Carroll won a Women's Irish Hockey League title with Hermes. Carroll has also played both camogie and ladies' Gaelic football at senior inter-county level for Clare and represented the Republic of Ireland women's national under-17 football team.
Audrey O'Flynn is an Ireland women's rugby sevens international. O'Flynn represented Ireland at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens. O'Flynn is also a former Ireland women's field hockey international. Between 2010 and 2014, O'Flynn made 120 appearances and scored 30 goals for the Ireland women's national field hockey team
Cork Harlequins Hockey and Cricket Club is a multi-sports club based in Cork City in Ireland. The club was founded in 1925. Although Harlequins is best known for its field hockey and cricket teams, during its history the club has also organised teams in various other sports including table tennis, association football, rugby union and tennis. In 2008–09 Cork Harlequins were founder members of both Men's Irish Hockey League and the Women's Irish Hockey League. As of 2018–19, the club's senior women's team played in the national league Division 1 but have played in Division 2 since 2021 and the Women's Irish Senior Cup. The club's senior men's team have also played the Men's Irish Senior Cup and were All-Ireland club champions in 2002. The senior men's team currently plays in the national league Division 2. Reserve teams play in the Men's Irish Junior Cup and the Women's Irish Junior Cup. Cork Harlequins have also represented Ireland in European competitions.
Church of Ireland Hockey Club, also referred to as Cork Church of Ireland or Cork C of I, is a field hockey club based at the Garryduff Sports Centre, in Rochestown, Cork, Ireland. The club is the field hockey club of the Incorporated Church of Ireland Cork Young Men's Association (ICICYMA) and is closely associated with the Church of Ireland diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross. In 2008–09 Cork Church of Ireland were founder members of both the Men's Irish Hockey League and the Women's Irish Hockey League. The club's senior men's team also enters the Men's Irish Senior Cup. The men's reserve team plays in the Men's Irish Junior Cup. The club's women's teams have been finalists in both the Women's Irish Senior Cup and the Women's Irish Junior Cup. Cork Church of Ireland was one of the first teams to represent Ireland in Europe when they played in the 1970 EuroHockey Club Champions Cup. Cork Church of Ireland also fields various men's and women's teams in junior, senior and veterans leagues and cup competitions affiliated to Munster Hockey.
