Zehra Khan is a Pakistani trade unionist and activist. [1] [2] She is the general secretary of the Home-Based Women Worker's Federation (HBWWF). [3] [4] She is a member of many tripartite committees including the Sindh Minimum Wage Board, the Sindh Tripartite Labour Standing Committee, the Sindh Occupational and Health Council, and the Sindh HBWs Governing Body.
When Khan was a student of the women studies department, she learned about contributions of home based workers and she took up the subject for her Master's thesis. [5] [6] In her study, she realized the need for legal rights that could protect these workers. [7] [8] Khan had the idea of forming federations by bringing workers from different industries. [9] [10] She started her door-to-door campaign of encouraging women to attend HBWWF's meetings. [11] [12] The meetings involved regular discussion circles which eventually convinced the women to join the organization's rallies. [13] [14]
The formation of unions started off with the bangle industry and gradually moved towards the garment industry. [15] [16] Khan then started working towards making a law specifically for home-based workers and so she started forming circles of them. [17] [18] Khan's work eventually led to the formation of unions in Sindh and Baluchistan, the first of its kind in South Asia. [19] [20] This culminated in the founding of the Home-Based Women Workers Federation on December 30, 2019.
Khan is also a part of civil society groups and associations. [21] [22] She is also an activist who has taken part in rallies and protests involving women's rights, human rights, labor rights, and minority protection. [23] [24] [25] She has worked to bring awareness on the subject of workplace and sexual harassment and labor rights. [26] [27] [28]
In 2023, Freedom House rated Pakistan’s human rights at 37 out 100.

Jam Saqi popularly known as Comrade Jam Saqi, was a left-wing politician from Sindh, Pakistan. He was previously the general secretary of the Communist Party of Pakistan. Saqi was imprisoned for more than 15 years due to his political activities. During his period in jail his then wife, Sukhan, had committed suicide after reading a newspaper containing allegations of Jam Saqi's death. He then left the Communist Party in 1991 and joined the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Trotskyist The Struggle group. He was married to Akhtar Sultana.

Religious discrimination in Pakistan is a serious issue for the human rights situation in modern-day Pakistan. Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Shias, and Ahmadis among other religious minorities often face discrimination and at times are even subjected to violence. In some cases Christian churches and the worshippers themselves have been attacked. Khawaja Nazimuddin, the 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan, stated: "I do not agree that religion is a private affair of the individual nor do I agree that in an Islamic state every citizen has identical rights, no matter what his caste, creed or faith be".

Krishna Kumari Kohli, also known by the nickname Kishoo Bai, is a Pakistani politician who has been the member of the Senate of Pakistan since March 2018. She is the second Hindu woman to hold this position. She is known for her campaigns for women's rights and against bonded labour; and was named as one of the BBC's 100 most influential women in 2018.
Trade unions in Pakistan are regulated under provincial industrial relations acts. Under the Constitution of Pakistan, labour is considered a shared responsibility of the federal and provincial governments. The latest Industrial Relation Act was promulgated on 12 March 2012 by President of Pakistan. National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) was established under Labour Policy, 1972 as a quasi-judicial authority to promote genuine trade unionism, setting up industry-wise federations of unions and at the national levels. According to NIRC, in 2016 there were 1,390 trade unions with registered 1.4 million members. There are 16 registered federations and the ratio of total union members to total employment is 2.2%.

The Aurat Azadi March was started in 2018 in Pakistan by members of Women Democratic Front, other organizations like Women's Action Forum, Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls alliance, Young Teachers Association, Home-Based Women Workers Union, Awami Workers Party, Awami Jamhoori Party also joined the march on International Women's Day in Islamabad. Aurat Azadi March and Aurat March are organized by different groups of women since 2018. Aurat Azadi March is organized by group of socialist feminists whereas Aurat March is organized by group of liberal feminists. Aurat March was also started the same year by the group of individual women known as "Hum Aurtein" collective in Karachi and Lahore.
The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) has held public gatherings and marches at various places, including Bajaur, Bannu, Chaman, Charsadda, Dera Ismail Khan, Islamabad, Karachi, Khyber, Killa Saifullah, Lahore, Loralai, North Waziristan, Peshawar, Quetta, South Waziristan, Swabi, Swat, Tank, Zhob in Pakistan, as well as in several Western countries, including Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, and the United States.
The Home-Based Women Worker's Federation (HBWWF) is a trade union federation of home-based female workers in Pakistan. its also a first ever trade union of HBWs in Pakistan. The federation had around 4,500 members in 2019.

Progressive Students Federation (PrSF) is a left-wing socialist students’ organisation based in Pakistan. PrSF was formed in 2014 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa but was later joined various factions of National Students Federation in Punjab and Sindh. The organisation has mobilised students and youth all over Pakistan for democratisation of campuses, restoration of student unions and universal education.
Akhtar Hussain is a Pakistani lawyer, senior advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan and left wing political leader. He is senior vice president of the left-wing political party, Awami Workers Party. He served as the General Secretary of Awami Workers Party from 2016 to 2022. He stayed member of Pakistan Bar Council for ten years from 2010 to 2020 and elected as Vice Chairman in 2012. He was a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan for two years from 2019 to 2021.
