ZetTrans is the statutory regional transport partnership for the Shetland Islands. It was created by Transport Scotland under the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005, along with six similar groups covering other areas of Scotland. [1]

Functions

ZetTrans develops regional transport policy for the Shetland Isles, maintaining infrastructure and providing provision of bus, ferry and air services, as well as supporting sustainable transport. [2]

It is governed by a joint board, whose membership includes representatives of Shetland Islands Council, NHS Shetland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. [2]

Operations

ZetTrans specifies and subsidises local bus, [3] ferry, [4] and plane services, [5] although the routes themselves are operated by private companies or Shetland Islands Council.

The partnership also operates a car sharing scheme, and an online travel planner. [2]

NorthLink Ferries

NorthLink Ferries is an operator of passenger and vehicle ferries, as well as ferry services, between mainland Scotland and the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland. Since July 2012, it has been operated by international services company Serco.

Nestrans is a partnership between Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council which was a voluntary partnership until it was made statutory by the then Scottish Executive, in 2006. Its main role is to develop and deliver strategic transport plans across the North East of Scotland. It is one of seven transport partnerships across Scotland and is based in King Street, Aberdeen.

Public transport in New Zealand

Public transport in New Zealand exists in many of the country's urban areas, and takes a number of forms. Bus transport is the main form of public transport. Two major cities, Auckland and Wellington, also have suburban rail systems that have been gaining more patronage and new investment in recent years. Some cities also operate local ferry services. There are no remaining tram systems active anywhere in New Zealand, though trams once had a major role in New Zealand's public transport.

The go card is an electronic smartcard ticketing system developed by Cubic Corporation, which is currently used on the TransLink public transport network in South East Queensland. To use the go card, users hold the card less than 10 cm away from the reader to "touch on" before starting a journey, and must do the same to "touch off" the service at the end of the journey. The cost of each journey is deducted from the go card balance.

Transit Systems Group is an Australian-based public transport company, which also operates overseas through its subsidiary Tower Transit Group. Transit Systems Group is a subsidiary of the SeaLink Travel Group.

Transdev Australasia is an operator of bus, ferry, light rail and rail services in Australia and New Zealand. It is a subsidiary of French-based, international Transdev. It was formed in 2013 by grouping the operations of Veolia Transport Australia and former Transdev together, as a result of the global rebranding from Veolia Transdev to Transdev.
