Zhivago Duncan is a contemporary artist currently based in Mexico City. His works ranges from paintings, sculpture and mixed media to substantial installations including complex, mesmeric mechanical fantasies. [1]
Collections include the Saatchi Gallery, where he has exhibited in the major Gesamtkuntswerk exhibition of new art from Germany. [2] Zhivago has also exhibited in the UK and Germany. On a recent approach to Bruno Brunett, director of leading Berlin gallery Contemporary Fine Arts at an art fair the artist introduced himself with "I’m Zhivago Duncan. Someone told me you’re the only man with the balls to sell my work." [3] [4]
According to the Saatchi gallery, [5] one of the world's leading collections of modern art, "through his sprawling, messy multimedia artworks, Zhivago Duncan comments on the state of contemporary culture and its obsessions, crassly quoted and re-created from an irreversibly apocalyptic future point of view.”
Zhivago himself comments: "my work provides a close examination of our society’s excessive infatuation with glamour, fortune, and fame." [6] His work is not one-dimensional, however. According to the Cat Street Gallery, "rather than existing solely as a contemporary commentator, Zhivago also brings an element of historical voyeurism to his pieces, even sometimes nostalgia. Whether expressive silk-screened portraits of celebrities long forgotten or sculptural remnants of abandoned muscle cars, his aesthetic of damage and tarnish pays homage to the countless icons that have been lost in the depths of time." Zhivago's multi-faceted character is reflected in his habitation of a variety of creative alter egos who inspire and create his work. One of these was "Nacnud Ogavihz" a reversal of the label of his own identity. In 2010-11 his works consisted of paintings and installations created by "Dick Flash".[ citation needed ] Dick Flash's work is "the result of the imaginary journey of Dick Flash, the world’s sole survivor of the apocalypse according to him and his legacy. Semi-amnesiac, Dick Flash roams the converted world digging up the fruitful remains of his debauched ancestors."[ citation needed ]
The Young British Artists, or YBAs—also referred to as Brit artists and Britart—is a loose group of visual artists who first began to exhibit together in London in 1988. Many of the YBA artists graduated from the BA Fine Art course at Goldsmiths, in the late 1980s, whereas some from the group had trained at Royal College of Art.
Damien Steven Hirst is an English artist and art collector. He is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs) who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s. He is reportedly the United Kingdom's richest living artist, with his wealth estimated at US$384 million in the 2020 Sunday Times Rich List. During the 1990s his career was closely linked with the collector Charles Saatchi, but increasing frictions came to a head in 2003 and the relationship ended.
The Saatchi Gallery is a London gallery for contemporary art and an independent charity opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985. Exhibitions which drew upon the collection of Charles Saatchi, starting with US artists and minimalism, moving to the Damien Hirst-led Young British Artists, followed by shows purely of painting, led to Saatchi Gallery becoming a recognised authority in contemporary art globally. It has occupied different premises, first in North London, then the South Bank by the River Thames, and finally in Chelsea, Duke of York's HQ, its current location. In 2019 Saatchi Gallery became a registered charity and began a new chapter in its history. Recent exhibitions include the major solo exhibition of the artist JR, JR: Chronicles, and London Grads Now in September 2019 lending the gallery spaces to graduates from leading fine art schools who experienced the cancellation of physical degree shows due to the pandemic.
Hans Haacke is a German-born artist who lives and works in New York City. Haacke is considered a "leading exponent" of Institutional Critique.
Albert Oehlen is a German artist. He lives and works in Bühler, Switzerland and Segovia, Spain.
Jonathan Meese is a German painter, sculptor, performance artist, and installation artist based in Berlin and Hamburg. Meese's works include paintings, collages, drawings and writing. He also designs theater sets and wrote and starred in a play, De Frau: Dr. Poundaddylein - Dr. Ezodysseusszeusuzur in 2007 at the Volksbühne Theater. He is mainly concerned with personalities of world history, primordial myths and heroes. Jonathan Meese lives and works in Ahrensburg and Berlin.
Hernan Bas is an artist based in Miami, Florida. He graduated in 1996 from the New World School of the Arts in Miami.
Rob Clayton and Christian Clayton are painters based in California.
Jason Fayette Rhoades was an American installation artist. Better known in Europe, where he exhibited regularly for the last twelve years of his life, Rhoades was celebrated for his combination dinner party/exhibitions that feature violet neon signs and his large scale sculptural installations inspired by his rural upbringing in Northern California and Los Angeles car culture. His work often incorporates building materials and found objects assembled with "humor and conceptual rigor." He was known for by-passing conventional ideas of taste and political correctness in his pursuit of the creative drive.

Ged Quinn is an English artist and musician. He studied at the Ruskin School of Art and St Anne's College in Oxford, the Slade School of Art in London, the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He now lives and works in the UK.
Artists Anonymous are an art group based in Berlin and London. They were founded in 2001 during their studies at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) at the classes of Georg Baselitz and Stan Douglas. They finished studying in 2006.
Julian Rosefeldt is a German artist and film-maker. Rosefeldt's work consists primarily of elaborate, visually opulent film and video installations, often shown as panoramic multi-channel projections. His installations range in style from documentary to theatrical narrative.
Huma Mulji is a Pakistani contemporary artist. Her works are in the collections of the Saatchi Gallery, London and the Asia Society Museum. She received the Abraaj Capital Art Prize in 2013.
Pékin Fine Arts, is a contemporary art gallery in Beijing established in 2005, with a Hong Kong branch gallery opened in 2012. It was listed by The New York Times as one of the "top museums and galleries" in Beijing, and listed by Forbes as one of the ten galleries in Beijing from which to buy Chinese art.
Oscar Murillo is an artist working within the painting tradition. He currently lives and works in various locations.
Ben Moore is a British art curator, entrepreneur and artist. He is the founder and curator of Art Below, a contemporary art organisation that places art in public spaces and has had shows in England, Germany, Japan and the United States. He is also the founder and curator of Art Wars, an exhibition of designs based on the Imperial Stormtrooper helmets from Star Wars. In 2021, Moore was part of the Art Wars NFT project which resulted in massive losses for the purchasers of the NFTs and claims of copyright theft from artists whose physical work was reproduced without their permission.
Lionel Smit is a South African artist, known for his contemporary portraiture executed through large canvases and sculptures.
Laura Buckley (1977–2022) was an Irish video and installation artist, and sculptor. Born in Galway, Ireland, she lived and worked in London. She exhibited throughout the UK and internationally.
Martine Poppe, is a contemporary artist known for her pale oil paintings on sailcloth with climate and feminism as central themes in her work. Poppe’s paintings are based on digital photographs of nature and carry the effects of diffracted light, overexposed photography, and the pixelation of blown-up digital images, resulting in a unique blend of abstraction and representation.
