Ozlem Denizmen is the Head of Strategy at Dogus Holding, one of Turkey's major conglomerates and a board member at Dogus Automotive, an Istanbul Stock Exchange-30 company. Denizmen started her career at Merrill Lynch Investment Bank as a financial analyst in 1994. She holds a B.S. degree from Cornell University in Industrial Management and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Denizmen attended leadership programs at Stanford University, GE Crotonville and Harvard Business School. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Social entrepreneurship

In early 2010 Denizmen launched the ‘Para Durumu’ multi-media platform, which is Turkey's first financial literacy initiative. She performs a weekly show on A Haber TV channel, accompanied by a weekly column in Posta and Hurriyet newspapers, and presents at seminars and conference as well as to students across the country. In 2011, Para Durumu was recognized by OECD. [5]

Para Durumu established a new personal finance education movement for women with support of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Dogus Holding. The movement aimed to raise the financial awareness of 20,000 women in Istanbul by the end of 2013. [6]

Awards and honors

Denizmen was honored as ‘Young Global Leader' of 2011 by the World Economic Forum, as a White House Delegate at the 2010 Obama Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship and as “Young Society Leader 2011” of the American Turkish Society. She was listed among ‘Top 100 Powerful Women of Turkey’ by Dunya Newspaper in 2011. [7] Para Durumu was awarded the Jury Special Award as the best volunteer project in 2011 by the Corporate Volunteer Association of Turkey, which works to expand corporate volunteering in Turkey. [8]

Denizmen was invited as a speaker and also as a judge to The First Child and Youth Finance International Summit and Award Ceremony which to be held April 3 & 4 2012 in Amsterdam. [9]

Berat Albayrak Turkish businessman and politician

Berat Albayrak is a Turkish businessman and former politician. He is a former CEO of Çalık Holding. He was a member of parliament from Istanbul in the 25th, 26th and 27th legislative sessions. He served as Minister of Energy and Natural Resources in the 64th and 65th government of Turkey and was the Minister of Finance and Treasury in the 66th government until his unexpected resignation on 8 November 2020 citing health reasons. His resignation was officially accepted on 9 November and he was succeeded by Lütfi Elvan on 10 November. In 2004, he married the daughter of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Albayrak has been accused of involvement in oil production and smuggling in ISIL.

The 2013 Gezi Park protests in Turkey saw massive amounts of censorship and disinformation by the mainstream media, especially by those supporting Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP). A poll done by Istanbul Bilgi University in the first week of the protests showed that 84% of the demonstrators cited the lack of media coverage as a reason to join the protests, higher than the 56% of protesters who referred to the destruction of Gezi Park.

In 2009, he was elected as the “Best Second Generation Businessman” and in 2011 he was included in the list of the “25 Most Successful Businessmen Under 35” of Forbes Turkey. Süzer got his higher education in United States and the United Kingdom first at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts followed by Richmond University The American University in London in Richmond, England.

Canan Gullu Turkish activist (born 1962)

Canan Güllü is a Turkish activist who is the President of the Federation of Women Associations of Turkey (TKDF). She was awarded the International Women of Courage Award in 2021.

In November 2009, Molotov cocktails were thrown at a bus and set ablaze in Istanbul. 17-year old Serap Eser was badly burnt and died in the hospital, after a while in coma. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was blamed and still to this day some Turkish officials and pro-Turkey media outlets accuse them. In 2015, former Interior Minister İdris Naim Şahin later stated “I have unfortunately learned that the people who sabotaged the bus, throwing Molotov cocktails, were members of MİT”.
