Vicente Lusitano was a Portuguese composer and music theorist of the late Renaissance. Some of his works on musical theory and a small number of compositions survive. Lusitano was for a time a Catholic priest and taught in several Italian cities, but later converted to Protestantism.

He performed with his wife Maria de Lourdes Machado, a nurse who became an accomplished Fado singer. In 1937 he opened the Adega Machado in Lisbon's Bairro Alto, which was the second fado bar in the bairro, but the first to give daily performances.

The Siege of Daman of 1639, also called the Great Siege of Daman was a military engagement between Portuguese forces and those of the Mughal Empire in the city of Daman, in India. A Mughal army commanded by the Mughal prince-heir Aurangzeb attempted to assault Daman, but was repulsed in the face of stubborn Portuguese resistance.
