Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot was a French painter and a member of the circle of painters in Paris who became known as the Impressionists.
Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement characterized by relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities, ordinary subject matter, unusual visual angles, and inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience. Impressionism originated with a group of Paris-based artists whose independent exhibitions brought them to prominence during the 1870s and 1880s.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. As a celebrator of beauty and especially feminine sensuality, it has been said that "Renoir is the final representative of a tradition which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau."

Musée Marmottan Monet is an art museum in Paris, France, dedicated to artist Claude Monet. The collection features over three hundred Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet, including his 1872 Impression, Sunrise. The museum's fame is the result of a donation in 1966 by Michel Monet, Claude's second son and only heir.

The Lane Bequest is a collection of 39 paintings from the estate of Sir Hugh Lane. The collection is mainly paintings by French 19th-century artists, including several by the Impressionists, including masterpieces such as Manet's Music in the Tuileries (1862) and Renoir's The Umbrellas (c.1881), along with many more modest works. The collection is owned by the National Gallery, London, but most of the paintings are now displayed at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin.

Berthe Morisot with a Bouquet of Violets is an 1872 oil painting by Édouard Manet. It depicts fellow painter Berthe Morisot dressed in black mourning dress, with a barely visible bouquet of violets. The painting, sometimes known as Portrait of Berthe Morisot, Berthe Morisot in a black hat or Young woman in a black hat, is in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Manet also created an etching and two lithographs of the same composition.

Argenteuil is an 1874 oil on canvas painting by Édouard Manet (1832-1883), first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1875. It is one of Manet's first works to qualify fully as an Impressionist work, due to its naturalistic subject and its bold palette, such as the blue of the river, mocked by the Figaro journalist Jean Rousseau as "in the foreground, Argenteuil jam on an indigo river" It is now in the Musée des beaux-arts in Tournai, Belgium.
Claude Monet Painting in his Studio or Monet in his Boat is an 1874 oil on canvas painting by Édouard Manet. It shows his friend Claude Monet painting in his 'studio-boat' with his wife. This was an old boat Monet had bought around 1871 or 1872, from which he observed the light on the Seine – Daubigny also had a studio-boat called the Bottin. With The Monet Family in their Garden and Argenteuil, it was one of a number of paintings produced during a summer Manet spent with Monet. The work is now in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
The Batignolles group was a group of young avant-garde painters from the end of the 19th century who gathered around Édouard Manet. The group bears its name in reference to the Batignolles district, where the artists used to meet between 1869 and 1875. Many of the artists in the group later became known for the Impressionism movement.
