The 1882 Maine gubernatorial election was held on 11 September 1882 in order to elect the Governor of Maine. Republican nominee and former member of the Maine Senate Frederick Robie defeated incumbent Democratic Governor Harris M. Plaisted, Greenback nominee and former member of the Maine House of Representatives Solon Chase, Prohibition nominee William T. Eustis and Independent Republican candidate and former President of the Maine Senate Warren H. Vinton. [1]
On election day, 11 September 1882, Republican nominee Frederick Robie won the election by a margin of 8,560 votes against his foremost opponent incumbent Democratic Governor Harris M. Plaisted, thereby gaining Republican control over the office of governor. Robie was sworn in as the 39th Governor of Maine on 3 January 1883. [2]

The 1964 United States Senate elections were held on November 3. The 33 seats of Class 1 were contested in regular elections. Special elections were also held to fill vacancies. They coincided with the election of President Lyndon B. Johnson by an overwhelming majority, to a full term. His Democratic Party picked up a net two seats from the Republicans. As of 2023, this was the last time either party has had a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which allowed the Senate Democrats to override a veto, propose constitutional amendments, or convict and expel certain officials without any votes from Senate Republicans. However, internal divisions would have prevented the Democrats from having done so. The Senate election cycle coincided with Democratic gains in the House in the same year.

Harris Merrill Plaisted was an attorney, politician, and Union Army officer from Maine. As colonel, he commanded the 11th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. After the war, he served as Maine Attorney General, a U.S. Congressman, and the 38th Governor of Maine.
Frederick William Plaisted was an American politician and the 48th Governor of Maine.

Solon Chase was an American farmer, orchardist, politician and newspaper publisher from Maine. Chase served two single year terms in the Maine House of Representatives. In 1873, an economic depression began and Chase joined the national Greenback Party. He is credited with founding the Greenback Party in Maine. Chase sought to build an independent movement of farmers and workers through the Greenback Party and opposed electoral fusion with the Maine Democratic Party.

The 2020 United States Senate election in Maine was held on November 3, 2020, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Maine, concurrently with the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as well as other elections to the United States Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. This was Maine's first election for its Class 2 seat to use its ranked choice voting system. Because the first round of the general election saw a majority (51%), the instant runoff tabulation of more than 800,000 ballots was not carried out.
