On 8 July 1957, a de Havilland Venom operated by the 60 Squadron Royal Air Force crashed after departure from Tengah Air Base into a building block and exploded. During the crash, four people died including the pilot. Two more people died during the rescue operation. Nineteen people were injured.

Crash

On 8 July 1957, a de Havilland DH.112 Venom FB.MK 1 operated by the 60 Squadron Royal Air Force on a training flight, [1] crashed after departure from Tengah Air Base. The airplane stalled on take-off. After hitting with a wing the ground, the jet crashed into a two-storey housing block. The jet exploded and set the housing block on fire. The pilot of the airplane died. On the ground, two women and a fifteen-year-old child who lived in the housing block died. [2] [3] [4] Ten people were injured. [5] [6]

Aftermath

A fire truck that was on its way to the crash site had a traffic accident. In this accident, a firefighter and a bystander were killed after colliding with a truck about one mile from the Air Base. [7] Due to this incident, nine people were injured including seven firefighters. [5]

On 20 November 1960 a F-84F Thunderstreak of the Royal Netherlands Air Force crashed at 7:50pm into a farm in Lutjelollum between Wjelsryp and Franeker, the Netherlands. The pilot and the family of six people who lived at the farm were all killed. The farm was destroyed and burned down and the livestock was killed.

On 25 July 1957, a Republic F-84G Thunderjet operated by the Turkish Air Force crashed in the city center of Bursa in northwestern Turkey. Up to twenty-nine people died, sixteen people were injured and twenty-five houses burned down.

On 24 November 1956 the ČSA Czechoslovak Airlines Ilyushin Il-12B "OK-DBP" was an international scheduled passenger flight from Zürich to Prague. Shortly after take off from Zurich-Kloten Airport the airplane crashed 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) north of the airport in a field near Eglisau and Wasterkingen, Switzerland. All 23 people on board were killed.

Miroslav Pašek was a Czechoslovak ice hockey goaltender. He played with TJ Baník Chomutov ZJF in the Czechoslovak Extraliga and was a member of the Czechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team. After playing international matches in Switzerland, he was killed during the return flight in the 1956 Eglisau Ilyushin Il-12 plane crash.
