The 1996 Superbike World Championship was the ninth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 14 April at Misano and finished on 27 October at Phillip Island after 12 rounds.

Haga was the runner-up in the championship three times and, four times finished in third place. His 43 victories ranks fifth all time in the history of the Superbike World Championship behind Jonathan Rea, Carl Fogarty, Alvaro Bautista and Troy Bayliss. Haga ranks fourth behind Troy Corser, Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea in career World Superbike race starts with 313. He last competed in the 2018 CIV Supersport 600 Championship, aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6.

The 2006 Superbike World Championship was the nineteenth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 25 February at Losail, and finished on 8 October at Magny-Cours after 12 rounds and 24 races. The original season calendar issued by the FIM included a 13th round scheduled in South Africa on 22 October but the round was cancelled at the request of the series' promoter FGSport.

The 1988 Superbike World Championship was the inaugural FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 3 April at Donington Park and finished on 3 October at Manfeild Autocourse after 9 rounds.

The Supersport World Championship, abbreviated to WorldSSP, is a motorcycle racing competition on hard-surfaced circuits, based on mid-sized sports motorcycles. Competition machines were originally based on production-based motorcycles with 600 cc to 750 cc engines, depending on the number of cylinders. After trials in UK national series British Supersport, from 2022 the regulations have changed to allow eligibility of larger-displacement engines, to reflect the engine sizes being produced and encourage different manufacturers.

The 1990 Superbike World Championship was the third FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 18 March at Jerez and finished on 18 November at Manfeild Autocourse after 13 rounds.

The 2004 Superbike World Championship was the seventeenth FIM Superbike World Championship season. The season started on 29 February at Valencia and finished on 3 October at Magny-Cours after 11 rounds. The traditional Japanese round at Sugo was replaced with a new Canadian round which was scheduled for 4 July at the Mont-Tremblant, near Quebec. Though no explanation was given for the change, it was seen as some form of revenge after the refusal of the Japanese manufacturers to back the 2004 rules. The Canadian round was eventually canceled after a circuit inspection determined that the amount of work necessary to bring the venue up to WSBK standard could not be carried out in time for the proposed date.
